Well, if you have never had to operate a large business these issues seem insurmountable. The solution, convince everyone else it is just that to cover for your own lack of understanding. They massively overplayed their hand and now the bill is due. They have no other strategy than to double down on the tactics which turned the country against them. They are completely bereft of any new ideas or strategies and are unwilling to seek new ones because they are still in disbelief that the methodologies which garnered them so much power and influence a few short years ago are now unpopular with a majority of Americans. 

Additionally, the corruption and malfeasance which aided them in their seizure of power is now coming to light.
