what i dont get is if we do draft a franchise qb, why would you trade one of your starting tackles? why make the offensive line worse when you plan on drafting teddy. it would stunt his growth.

Because by the time Teddy got here to play, the team would have to negotiate with said Left Tackle and come to an agreement on a contract. What further complicates this situation is that there is a player already on the roster who grades out as a competent Left Tackle in his own right.

 

While your Offensive Line as a whole may have gotten worse by the time Teddy gets here, you will have enough opportunities, and cash on hand since you didn't sign a lucrative Left Tackle Free Agent contract, to bolster the Offensive Line to an acceptable level.

More often than not.  5 of the last 9 years.  And if you look at it, the best QB of the draft wasn't always the first one taken.

2011 - Newton?, Dalton, Kaepernick

 

2010 - none (Bradford? not IMO)

 

2009 - Stafford?

 

2008 - Ryan, Flacco

Because neither were a good option at ORT, and Joeckel has the higher ceiling at OLT.

Tell me how the Colts line has "stunted" Luck's growth. That is the biggest line of crap I have heard about how a QB can't play  behind this line. Sure, the line needs to get better but look at that garbage line Manning played behind in Indy or what Rodgers has in Green Bay. Great QB's are going to be great. If the line play impacts him that much, he isn't the guy.

I agree with most of this but I do think Tannehill will be a franchise qb. The rest aren't and Pirk did put "?" by some of those qbs indicating some may think they are and some may not.

for Schaub & Alex Smith the "?" wasn't even warranted. There should be no question - they aren't franchise level QB. They are game managers. 

 

And with Stafford... I am surprised he had a "?"....if you are going to list Jay Cutler as a franchise guy, Stafford at worst, is a similar kind of QB.
