LOL - how stupid do you have to be to believe the rumors??? Why would the Browns give up even a 3rd rounder for Monroe when they have Joe Thomas???
Come on folks, don't be that gullible....

Another OT, who is worse than Monroe, netted a conditional 7th. How is that not relevant to trade value for OTs? Quote:No I didn't. Another OT, who is worse than Monroe, netted a conditional 7th. Brandon Albert who is better than Monroe and has a similar contract situation received a 3rd round pick as an offer from the most desperate GM in the NFL this past offseason. All those who are blasting Caldwell for not getting value keep ignoring this fact.

The fact is we didn't try to re-sign our young LT who is pretty good. That is all that matters. There is no indication we even tried.
Because he would be expensive. That's it, he would cost too much. Now the reason we did not get anything for Monroe, is the other GM's are smart, they know Caldwell will let a good high priced player walk. So why give anything of real value? Everyone who equates the value of a starting good LT to a 4th rounder has lost their mind. That is what a team will give us, but that is not the market value of the position. GM's know Khan is cheap, so they offer us peanuts... why offer a steak when peanuts will be accepted. The trade offer amount has little to do with the players value. We should have tried to extend the guy, did anyone hear of any contract extension talks? I didn't. Monroe or his agent did not say the Jags were interested. We let him go for nothing because we were letting him go anyway because he was expensive, period, end of story. When you let your young first round talent go because of money, and money only, then you have a cheap team, and not serious about winning. There is no other way to view it. Quote:The fact is we didn't try to re-sign our young LT who is pretty good. That is all that matters. There is no indication we even tried. Sure there is. You're making assumptions based on nothing more than voices in your head. For all we know, Caldwell and Bradley think Joeckel will be a much better LT than Monroe, and also that Monroe would not make a good RT. If that is true, why even try to re-sign him?
If something can corrupt you, you're corrupted already.

I am making assumptions? No, that would be you. You are assuming Luke will be a good player based on his draft position.
So far, I am not impressed. But we KNOW Monroe was a good player, still young, he was just expensive. I would take the KNOWN quality of Monroe, rather than hoping Luke grows into a good LT, and also trying to find a decent RT, along with Guard, along with Center.... They should have offered Monroe, and let Luke grow into a RT, that is supposedly why he was drafted. He wasn't even doing that well, but let it play out. The spin going on is incredible. There is no reason to let a young good LT walk for money, not when we are millions under the cap. |
