We'll see how long Blackmon is out, but I have to think Watkins would still be an option if Justin wasn't suspended.  I don't think he'd be at the top of their list, but he'd be in the mix for sure.

This morning on 1010XL, Jaguars' offensive coordinator Jed Fisch indicated he expects an 8 game suspension for Blackmon, and that Blackmon will not be cut or traded.

Well, Fisch said he expected Blackmon to miss an additional 8 games.

From what I understand, the suspension is technically indefinite but the best guess is about a year.

He also indicated that the Senior Bowl was a bigger advantage than he initially thought.

 

Jed Fisch indicated he fits scheme to personnel not the other way around, but states they want to run the ball better than they did last year and would like a 58/42 pass/run ratio which is a little more run based than the league norm

 

According to him, the Jaguars run about 55% 3 WR set offense.

 

Gerhart is very hard to tackle, and that he is adept at pass protection (and is very high-4th attribute he listed in what he looks for in RBs).

From what I've read the League will not make a determination until later in the year.

 

I think Caldwell can make certain assumptions (as it appears Fisch is), so it really makes sense to plan on not seeing Blackmon on the field until the second half of the season.

He's eligible to APPLY for reinstatement.  When he'd be reinstated is up in the air.  Based on how strike 3 was previously handled, it's a year, so they're assuming after week 8 based on past experience.  That could be accurate, or it could be less, or even more time.  It's up to the person hearing the appeal.  Nobody knows what Goodell will do.

In many instances, he does work in a vacuum. 

 

It's not a stretch to think his mandate would be enough to change when the draft happens.  He doesn't have to cede to the wishes of the GMs or coaches.  He'll be more than willing to do so with the owners, but even then it's not a given.  If he has some reason to justify leaving it in May, I could see it staying put.  That being said, he's already made some indication that this will be revisited.  Not only the dates, but the venue as well.

Yeah, I think with the new CBA, strike 3 became indefinite, but it stands to reason it will probably be a year suspension.  I think Blackmon can apply for reinstatement soon, and then Goodell would review the case and make his decision. It's possible it could be sooner than week 8 depending on what Blackmon is doing to get back on track.  The commissioner has latitude in how long the suspension can last.  I think if it goes beyond a year, he'd better have darn good reason for it or the NFLPA could step in.

On another note, can you imagine an offensve with Watkins, Shorts, and a reinstated Justin Blackmon? I'm not sure how NFL defenses would defend that, with a competent QB, their would be vast running lanes for whoever's in our backfield.

It depends on the situation.  Browner was supposedly suspended for missing a drug test.  If he tested clean in others, and simply missed one, he had a leg to stand on, and obviously the league agreed by reinstating him.  He had been fighting the suspension all along, which Blackmon has not done.

 

If Blackmon's suspension is because of a positive test, based on his history, I would expect to see him stuck with a year suspension, so he'd be able to come back after week 8.  I'm not optimistic that he'll see the field before that based on his history.
