Jedd Fisch on 1010XL
|
Quote:With Blackmon out half the season we're going to need a 1st WR. Welcome to Jacksonville Sammy. We'll see how long Blackmon is out, but I have to think Watkins would still be an option if Justin wasn't suspended. I don't think he'd be at the top of their list, but he'd be in the mix for sure. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:This morning on 1010XL, Jaguars' offensive coordinator Jed Fisch indicated he expects an 8 game suspension for Blackmon, and that Blackmon will not be cut or traded. Wait.....do you mean 8 MORE games, in addition to the 8 he's already served??? Quote:Wait.....do you mean 8 MORE games, in addition to the 8 he's already served??? Are you struggling with the math? That's been pretty much what most have been expecting. That would have him suspended for an entire year, which is really what the latest infraction should have triggered. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I remember reading shortly after the infraction happened that Blackmon would be eligible for re-instatement as soon as week 1 of the 2014 season. Well, Fisch said he expected Blackmon to miss an additional 8 games. He may miss more or less. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
Quote:I remember reading shortly after the infraction happened that Blackmon would be eligible for re-instatement as soon as week 1 of the 2014 season. From what I understand, the suspension is technically indefinite but the best guess is about a year.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Interesting stuff.
The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.
Quote:Goodell really thought this through. You act as if Goodell works in a vacuum. He only wishes he had the power many on this board ascribe to him. If Caldwell and Bradley complain loudly enough to Khan, and other GMs/coaches do the same with their owners, it will change. Maybe it's not that big a deal.

Quote:Will DC know how long Blackmon's suspension will be before the draft? From what I've read the League will not make a determination until later in the year. I think Caldwell can make certain assumptions (as it appears Fisch is), so it really makes sense to plan on not seeing Blackmon on the field until the second half of the season.

Quote:I remember reading shortly after the infraction happened that Blackmon would be eligible for re-instatement as soon as week 1 of the 2014 season. He's eligible to APPLY for reinstatement. When he'd be reinstated is up in the air. Based on how strike 3 was previously handled, it's a year, so they're assuming after week 8 based on past experience. That could be accurate, or it could be less, or even more time. It's up to the person hearing the appeal. Nobody knows what Goodell will do. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

It's not a stretch to think his mandate would be enough to change when the draft happens. He doesn't have to cede to the wishes of the GMs or coaches. He'll be more than willing to do so with the owners, but even then it's not a given. If he has some reason to justify leaving it in May, I could see it staying put. That being said, he's already made some indication that this will be revisited. Not only the dates, but the venue as well. Never argue with idiots. Quote:From what I understand, the suspension is technically indefinite but the best guess is about a year. Yeah, I think with the new CBA, strike 3 became indefinite, but it stands to reason it will probably be a year suspension. I think Blackmon can apply for reinstatement soon, and then Goodell would review the case and make his decision. It's possible it could be sooner than week 8 depending on what Blackmon is doing to get back on track. The commissioner has latitude in how long the suspension can last. I think if it goes beyond a year, he'd better have darn good reason for it or the NFLPA could step in. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
I expect him to serve a 4 game suspension similar to Browner who was hit with the same upon reinstatement.
"Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, if he gets angry, he's a mile away and barefoot."
On another note, can you imagine an offensve with Watkins, Shorts, and a reinstated Justin Blackmon? I'm not sure how NFL defenses would defend that, with a competent QB, their would be vast running lanes for whoever's in our backfield.

Quote:I expect him to serve a 4 game suspension similar to Browner who was hit with the same upon reinstatement. It depends on the situation. Browner was supposedly suspended for missing a drug test. If he tested clean in others, and simply missed one, he had a leg to stand on, and obviously the league agreed by reinstating him. He had been fighting the suspension all along, which Blackmon has not done. If Blackmon's suspension is because of a positive test, based on his history, I would expect to see him stuck with a year suspension, so he'd be able to come back after week 8. I'm not optimistic that he'll see the field before that based on his history. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
