If Blackmon comes back, do we have the best receiver core in the league?

Quote:I think he's only eligible for that stuff if he is reinstated.

He was suspended for the first 4 last season and was eligible to play during the preseason.

The way the league handles these suspension is counter productive if the intention is to help the player.  They should have more contact with the team in order to get the help and the support structure.  Leaving them to their own devices never seems to pan out well.

I don't think that it's so counter-productive. Granted, this particular regime is probably very good at helping the player but I seriously doubt most coaching staffs are. I don't like that they eliminate exposure to a player's teammates as I think it is probably a big help, but can you imagine how much "help" a guy like Schiano or Harbaugh is giving a guy get his life straightened out away from football?

There's probably no best way to do it, but I don't have a problem with the League isolating the player from the coaching staff.

It was a different kind of suspension.  He wasn't blocked from being with the team during the preseason.  He is this year because of the indefinite suspension.

If I was going to take a shot in the dark with regards to what's going on with JB, my guess would be that he's not showing up for testing.

That's what I'm thinking as well, which is a real problem considering players in the program are expected to provide their location to the league at all times so they can be reached for random testing, and they have to be available when they're tapped to do a test.  While it's random, it's not unexpected.  To miss the testing is a sign things aren't going well.

Having the fastest car with the worst driver won't win. Same with a core of great receivers. Need the driver there.

So it's on Bortles as well.

He said he kept forgetting his appointments after vacationing in Colorado. That or, he was being more responsible and won't drive after drinking, therefore not making the scheduled whizz collection.

He said it wouldn't happen again, so he still drinks, but won't drive.

Baby steps. Maybe they can go to his place to test him. Hey coddle enough of these players, why not?

Anyway. Most aren't counting on him. It's a shame, but it is what it is. The team sends a shot across the bow, and if he gets in the way, adios.

THANK GOD FOR SOME COMMON SENSE. I guess the league figured it wasn't in it's best interests for Johnny Football's #1 target to be suspended long-term. I knew the league would be trolled into rethinking this nonsense.

Is there a better receiving core in the league than that? It would definitely rival the Bears and Bengals for best in the league. Full of highly explosive playmakers that get a lot of yards after the catch and a red zone threat in Robinson.
NO I think most reasonable people could argue that an injured unproven (though  highly expected shouldve been 1st rounder WR in Lee) is great other teams have receivers that are already proven great like Redskins Jackson (from the Eagles cut), or Texans Johnson (wants to be cut /traded), we hope that Lee can become that receiver but its no guarantee.  Shorts is decent WR, if Blackmon returns it would be a great WR core, but it doesnt appear that will happen.  If Robinson is as good as expected and Ace improves on last year it'll be exciting to watch that's for sure.

I think people reallly need to temper expectations.

I posted this in another thread but I do have high expectations for Rob, not Lee. Still 1200 yards out of the two of them is as about as good as we can reasonably expect. Remember last year Keenan Allen and Tavon Austin- two excellent receivers (and comparisons to our guys) were eased in put up roughly 1200 total for the season. I'd even express some caution in chalking them up as sure fire options. I still remember what happened to the Redskins in 2010 (I think). Two receivers in the 2nd, just like us, in Malcolm Kelly and Devin Taylor. Both were fringe 1st rounders. And neither are employed today.....Maybe we should wait till TC to see how they fit in!

Lee
  • Drops are still a huge concern, but routes are good.
  • Hoping to see signs of progression towards the end of the season, with a large leap hopeful in the offseason.
  • 35 catches/500 yards.
Robinson
  • Becomes a go-to option mid-season, if not earlier
  • Hoping to what will happen with a full year of NFL conditioning- could be another large leap hopeful in the offseason.
  • 65 catches/800 yards.
  • Leads team in TD catches (7)

Oesher does seem to act the clown a fair bit, but I wouldn't put that label on him.

I can't stand Oesher. I really, really miss Vic. He's just so damn lame and unfunny. I've never even chuckled at one of his columns, they're best used as sleep medication.

Lee did not have a drop issue in2012 and bad QB play probably played a role in some of his drops last year. I think guys trying to be pessimistic keep harping on something that's overall not a historic concern for him.

The number of people who are harping on this are minimal.  I think most folks are quite happy with this pick.  Some folks just need something to nitpick.

Please. Nobodys being pessimistic or nitpicking so quit with the hyperbole. I like the pick a lot- but what I cant say that he's still not a finished product? Lol. He's a supremely talented receiver with a drop issue. Same as roddy white. Roddy was a huge talent but it took Joe Horn making him stay after practice for 2-3 hours working on his hands for him to become elite.

Its definitely his technique- which is correctable. Not all of it is bad quarterbacking, because Algholor didnt have the same issues. I'd blame it on bad coaching at the high school level- but once he gets his mitts, he's gonna be dynamite. The drop rate was bad and its something to monitor.

Can the NFL give us some damn information on it tho? Why are we still waiting?
