Jags to introduce poolside seats and cabanas: taunted by Colbert

A consistently winning team puts people in the seats in the long run, these stadium upgrades are just a fad.

Fad? You obviously don't know today's market. It's more then just football for football fans. Khan and company understand this and that is why they are having so much success. This isn't the fans of your daddies era. You either change with the times or live in the past.

And a winning team with more high end seating options offered by these upgrades you call a fad are a direct line for increased profitability beyond just football games for the team.  It's not a fad.

Quote:I thought the jokes were pretty funny....it's an easy shot because our team hasn't been very good.

They added two pools, cabanas, and the largest screens in the world to get publicity.  Colbert just gave it to us for free.  I'm in a sports forum on Facebook with mostly people from NY...and even they were talking about it.

Jags marketing wins.

I have buddies in NYC that usually couldn't care less about the Jaguars, and now they want to go to the Dolphins game and sit in a cabana.

Exactly.  It's getting all sorts of free publicity.  The idiots at Comedy Central may taunt it, but they're ignoring the fact that 65% of the tickets have already been sold, and the increased buzz should only help that along.

Seats that weren't being bought, are being converted to premium seating, and are now selling. Who cares what anyone says, that's a huge win for the franchise.

You can correct me if I'm wrong FBT, but premium seating sales has been the biggest hurdle in the last few years in regards to ticket revenue.

Especially the premium seats on the east side of the stadium.  I think that's still a challenge, but by offering some new concepts like the cabana deck or field level seating or the tables in the clubs, they're generating new interest and sales are in good shape.

When you look at where the cabana and pools are, they're basically taking advantage of tarped seats and sections that have been utilized for donated tickets in the past.  It eliminated all of those seats and replaced them with a serious revenue generating option.

I don't even think the pools are a fad.  We all questioned the point of installing them when they made the original announcements, but now that we're hearing how they'll be utilized, they are a real draw for revenue streams going beyond just Jaguar games.  Companies can book them for parties.  The UF/UGA game is already talking about how they'd like to use them.  It's pretty interesting to see this play out.

Before all this upgrading, the stadium was pretty basic. It was the run of the mill NFL stadium. It had it's perks, scratches and dents. The pools, cabanas and video boards are going to be a huge identifier now. People like upgrades, plain and simple. If they didn't, we wouldn't have lines of people for the initial sales of iPhones and wider HD TV's. All these upgrades should soothe the savage beast for a good while and get people up off the couch and into the stadium on game day.  It's already showing huge promise..

It wouldn't shock me to see one of the local gentlemen clubs buy tickets for at least one game.  Delores Weaver is no longer around.  Since I sit in front of one of the pools, I'd encourage them to do so, just leave the day shift gals at home.

I just watched the video of Colbert and his assessment of the stadium up-grades and of the team. His most scathing remark was something to the effect that rather than spend money on stadium up-grades like cabanas, swimming pools and a large video screen (instead of having tarps...), perhaps the franchise should consider putting a 'professional football team' on the field....

yikes....

I y'ams who I y'ams and thats all I y'ams...

Well, when you're one of the worst teams in football for the last few years you'd better have some thick skin. I don't think it's anything personal.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

I think the main point of the pools was also to build a buzz and get people to talk.  It looks like this week it blew up and they got the free advertisement they wanted.  That's why I say its a fad even though it still is bringing in revenue.

I get he is on a satirical show but they whole why not use the money to field a team argument always bugged me. It's like people don't realize that it's not the same pot of money and that both things can't be be done simultaneously. I guess we can only build up our team or our stadium, not both.

Oh come on. People always love comedy until it's directed at them.
