shame because given two years or so he could have probably cracked a 1,000 receptions which would have been a heck if a feat (statistically at least).

Sometimes its a good idea to let the talent refine that skill so it can become a gift; when you have an opportunity to.

The overwhelming majority here are simply reiterating what the head coach and GM have said repeatedly.  He'll start when he's ready. They won't rush him into the starting role before that's the case. 

 

There are those posters who somehow think that translates to "Unless Henne sucks" in some fashion.  Let's talk about reading between the lines things that were never said or even implied, shall we?

It's not the standard "you so dum" argument.  It's more along the lines of you're very selective in what you want to see.  Maybe it's reading comprehension?  Or, maybe you're willfully ignoring it.  The fact that you deny they exist tells me you've got your head pretty firmly imbedded somewhere.

I agree he is way better than Gabbert which is why its a perfectly good idea to rely on him and he should continue where he left off last year. I'm not saying its a bad plan, I'm not even saying Bradley isn't/wasn't telling the truth. What I am saying is that what an NFL coach says to the media is a) subject to change should the situation dictate and B) not the full, whole, uncut story with every variable and situation covered.

 

People seem to be getting very angry at the thought that Gus Bradley hasn't given every tiny detail of the teams off-season plans, with every possible variable covered, or that something he said may turn out to not happen because of other factors. 'He says Henne will start, so that's it, he will start, no ifs or buts.' Of course there are ifs and buts, there are always ifs and buts this is the real world, not Madden.

 

Plans are only worth anything if they reflect the reality of the situation, its one of the most basic ideas of leadership. A good General doesn't plow on with the attack if his men are out gunned. A good sales manager doesn't persist with the same sales targets the after a financial meltdown. A good teacher doesn't keep teaching algebra to a class who it turns out can't count to 10. Gus Bradley seems like a pretty good General/manger/teacher.

 

The plan is rely on Henne because he is a smart, albeit limited guy who knows the offense. That's a good plan and it makes perfect sense and there is no reason it should go wrong. However if for whatever reason version of Chad Henne that totally sucks, who we still see pretty regularly, becomes everyday Chad Henne, then the reality of the situation has changed and now you can't rely on Chad Henne, therefore the plan changes.

 

I really fail to grasp why some people are getting so angry about the fact than running a football team isn't black and white. Perhaps reading between lines hurts people's heads.

The funny thing here is you think I've been making some sort of absolute declaration about something when that's simply not true.  You accuse me of glitter boy tactics, but that's precisely the kind of maneuver he would use trying to paint it as a black/white prediction when that's not the case at all.  Feel free to point out where I said that Bortles not starting until he's absolutely ready without making any qualifications.  Even in this thread, I've made more than one acknowledgement that injury could certainly contribute to an early start for him, even if he's not ready.

So you think that a Blane Gabbert 2013 level of performance would be tolerated from Chad Henne all season?

 

You think this whole 'he wont start until he is ready' thing is so very vitally important to Bortles future success that they wont change course for any reason, none whatsoever, no matter what the situtation... Unless Henne is injured and then suddenly it all goes right out the window and he gets thrown to the lions regardless of his state of readiness?
