Scrimmage Thread

Mike Brown catches 80 balls this year. 900-1000 yards. 6 TDs. Contract extension.

Cecil- 4....................injuries. Plays for Cleveland next year.

Brown looks like a natural, and he may be the only person we throw out there at WR. If Shorts misses time, I wouldn't be surprised with something closer to 800.

Even if Shorts is injured, he would still be fourth string at best once Sanders returns though.

Why because I went out on the crazy, outlandish "Cecil Shorts is injury prone" limb?

Quote:Yup,  a second string quarterback scrimmaging against a second string defense looks pretty good.
Yes indeed!

I have read all these post and see everyone is not happy with our offense. Would you been happy if our offense with 5 starters out blew past our # 1 defense?????

Think!! Wallbash

Scrimmage looked fine

My quick takes from the scrimmage.

1. Bortles looked far more comfortable out there than Henne. I know it was against the second string, but he looked like the true pocket passer this team has been missing for a LONG time. Bortles also seemed more willing to throw it intermediate/deep, though he may be have had more opportunities, tough to tell from the feed. Both positives for Bortles though.

2. First team offensive line seemed to hold their own in the passing game, run game not so much. They weren't pancaking anyone, but for the most part they gave the Henne some time to throw. If there was a weak point in the pass blocking, it was from the interior. Tried to focus on Joeckel every so often and he did fine to me.

3. Hurns and Brown stood out on offense. Both were able to make some nice catches, but each did bobble an easy ball. Not a bad showing from a pair that should be be fourth and fifth options.

4. Batted balls. Defense line was able to get at least three of them in the scrimmage and Branch and Marks each had one. Hopefully it wasn't simply a case of playing against Chad and that can continue into the regular season.

5. Linebackers played well. LaRoy Reynolds had a pick negated by a penalty and Telvin Smith was flying around. Smith wasn't afraid to hit his opponent and as Shadrick/Sexton pointed out, that drew the ire of Bradley during what should have been minimal contact.

Telvin Smith will be a steal. He just needs to put on 10 pounds or so, but he has the speed and instincts you look for. And he's a vocal leader.

Every time I say the name Henne, I hear it in my head like Jerry Seinfeld says. "Newman." Cannot wait for the day he is not leading this offense on to the field. (Whenever that may be)
Only a chump boos the home team!

I will say it like this - our football team is in trouble if they are as bad as the "play-by-play" last night. Like 0-16, bad.

Thanks for the recap...especially regarding Joeckel.

These are my quck thoughts:

Look for a lot of fair catching in our return game.  Nobody could do anything with the punts that were kicked to them, Slaughter especially looked very poor returning punts.

I think Telvin Smith will start out as a special teams ace.  He's long and very fast and should make it doen the field before anyone else.  I can see him tackling the return guy before he gets to the 20 multiple times next year.

Bortles looked comfortable and just better than Henne.

There is a post scrimmage video on the front page where Cyprien referenced a number of sacks that would have taken place had it been an actual game.  Bortles also referenced those plays too.

I wonder what his stats woud have been had those "sacks" counted.

(I HATE not being able to see the scrimmage!!  AAARRRGGHHHH!!!).

Jaguar fans deserve better than the stuttering steeler.

Kahn's first real mistake as an owner, IMO.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

I think you've made that clear about 18 times in this thread.
