Team Captains

Scobee, Poz, and on offense, oh boy:
So, I'll go with Henne playing the Henne card.
the team captain thing doesn't even matter. leaders will lead regardless of a little patch on their shoulder.
Don't see how Henne can be a captain if the theory of Bortles will play at some point this season happens. A backup qb as a leader doesn't sound right.

Proof of said bullying? Generally, teams that appoint Captains on a weekly basis will have the coaching staff choose them, however teams that do the yearly have the players vote. Last year the Jags had 5(Meester, Lewis, Poz, Scobee, and MJD). Just because they are allowed up to six doesn't mean they have to have six. I'm guessing the team decided that those five were the best team leaders. Bryant already seems to have stood out as a leader on the Defense. Im sure Poz will carry over as will Scobee. On the offense? No clue....I'm guessing Shorts, Henne, or Lewis from being the most tenured. Of course, Gabbert was a team captain in 2012......so anything is possible.

Steve Beuerlein, Harry Colon, and Mike Hollis are going to be team captains.
Quote:How would you know if Lewis is, or is not, a leader? Every single interview Lewis has done has been all about himself. Granted he has had his share of off the field issues (custody case) but he has never put the team first when given the opportunity. If he doesn't lead that way to the media, he doesn't do it in the locker room or field. I can go on and on how he trains in California, him openly being put off against Gus' energy (at first), or didn't support either QB last year, but I see it as akin to Gabbert never engaging with the community. As the face of the franchise or even a captain, it's not just about personal production. Being a leader requires having a consistent attitude (hopefully the right one) and making those around you better. When has Lewis made those around him better? We have never had a clear #2 TE in Lewis' tenure because he doesn't support anybody but himself.
I'm sure sensible decisions will be made on the matter internally. Since we all really have no clue which players are looked upon as leaders by their peers on the current roster -- I'll trust the team to figure that one out.
Quote:How many captains do we have now?Another ignorant statement by you considering last year more teams carry 6 captains than 3. The most common number is 5. I guess Payton is an even bigger wuss than Del Rio considering last year the saints had 7 captains. http://sports.genius.com/Nfl-2013-team-c...-annotated So far this season, the broncos announced 5 captains and the bullied bills announced 6. I like to think captains are leaders that don't always mimic the coach's approach but make those around them better. When a young or new player needs to ask questions sometimes it helps to go to your captain rather than a coach. Anyway, Lewis and Henne won't retire Jags and are doubtful to be here next year, so making them captains is quite silly if we are truly building a team to contend. I also will trust the team to figure this out and hopefully they agree with not making Lewis, Henne, and maybe Shorts a captain.

6 captains is like giving participation trophies to all the kids who played pee wee ball imo.
At any rate, It really doesn't matter and I doubt the dudes in the locker room care much anyways. I suspect Henne (lol I hope not) and poz anyways.

I just don't care. 20 captains. 4 captains. No captains. Really doesn't matter to me. I just want to see some wins.
What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
