Nobody expected us to win, but after being up 17 at the half... Everyone SHOULD expect to win.


I'm not calling for anyone's head. I'm letting it known that a 5 year rebuild is not alright with me.


Year 2 of the rebuild needs to be better. And yes I'm talking about Ws.


If it's not, Gus and the entire gang should be on a very short leash. I don't like the public and the radio guys talking about how it's "only" year 2 of the rebuild and how we've got a "long ways to go"... I'm sorry, but in this age of the NFL, a successful rebuild shouldn't take longer than 3 years

 

We just started year 2 of this build.  We're not in year 3 or 5.  Even at this point, year 2 of the build IS better than year 1.  This team will eclipse their 2013 win total, and I'm basing that on what we saw yesterday in the first half of that game.  Considering this was probably the most difficult opponent this team will face this season, a Super Bowl contender and a division winner, I'd say this team has shown they're making the kind of progress that will eventually mean more wins.  It's one game.

It was ONE game, against a team that is expected to be a playoff or even Super Bowl contender. Yes, they blew a big lead, yes they could/should have played better after building that lead but I DID see signs of improvement. The wins will come if they keep improving.


I've seen playoff teams blow bigger leads. It happens.

I guess I should just suspend logic, ignore the fact that it was a comprehensive team loss, and simply go with the majority and blame Henne because that requires the least amount of thinking?  Is that your suggestion?

You're right.  They deserve every bit of criticism, and don't deserve any benefit of the doubt.  This team should have won the game yesterday because they had a lead.  It's inexcusable that a young team in year 2 of a rebuild coming off a 4 win season would blow a lead against one of the best teams in the league.  How dare they!

By not placing the majority of blame on Henne you are making excuses for him. Henne deserves the most blame. Sure there were other plays that could have been made by the defense and special teams. A qb should be able to preserve a 17 point lead for 2 quarters.

What exactly is FBT making excuses for?  His post is true that you quoted.  If you look at the actual plays that occurred during those times you would notice a lack of rushing yards, incomplete/ dropped passes, and penalties.  Henne was not the only reason for this loss.

The tiny difference is that sitting behind Henne is the #3 overall pick who has looked awesome in preseason.

The #3 pick looked awesome in the preseason facing vanilla or second string defenses.  That's what you EXPECT to see in the preseason.  The people who are evaluating him have determined that as encouraging as his preseason performances were, he's not ready.  Nothing you or I say or do is going to change that fact.

You're right.  We shouldn't look at where the team was when the rebuild started, and where they are today.  That would be foolish to do anything of the sort.

 

Instead, we should look at how they started 1 game against one of the top teams in the league, and how they finished it, and based on that evaluation, burn it down. Whine and complain that losing is unacceptable, and stomp your feet about it because you're really mad.  That's going to make a big difference.
