"The Plan": Coaching vs Management

Quote:Nobody is forcing you to suffer such personal horrors.

We are on a jaguars message board. What kind of reaction are you expecting? We will all go on with our lives. But while I'm talking about the jaguars, I will be passionate and disappointed after yesterday.

If you don't like reading the average fans criticism, you can choose not to be here. Nobody here is overreacting. Look at our W/L in the past 5 years. At least people are still here caring about the jags. Most normal people would say screw with this, I can spend my money elsewhere.

You don't think you're overreacting.  That's your prerogative.  I think you are.  That's mine.

You are complaining about the rebuild and said it shouldn't take more than 3 years... so in your own estimation it is too early to be calling for people's heads and be upset since this is the FIRST GAME in the 2nd year of the rebuild.... and our team is improved over last year. If we keep improving then wins will come. We call that logic.

All 3 were in the 2nd half?

Glad you mentioned this.

I'll be the first to say that one game is by no means a comprehensive sample size, but even with that and even in the face of the disappointing loss, there are signs this team has improved since this time last year.

Yesterday, the Jaguars scored 17 points that easily could have been more.  Last year, the Jaguars didn't score an offensive TD until week 3.

Yesterday, the Jaguars registered 5 sacks in the first half.  All of last year, the Jaguars registered 31 sacks.

Yesterday, the Jaguars forced two fumbles and created 3 turnovers.  Last year, the Jaguars forced 15 fumbles and 21 turnovers total for the year.

Yesterday, the Jaguars led for the first three quarters of the game.  Last year, aside from maybe the 5 minutes of the first game last year after the blocked punt, the Jaguars didn't play with any lead until the Tennessee game.

All of this happened with a lot of young players (Hurns, Lee, Branch, Davis) making big contributions.  All of this happened without Bortles.

I know this is a better team than last year.  It just needs to develop.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

The team is clearly better. But the second half sure felt alot like last year. Offense with multiple three and outs and the defense giving up big plays.

Are the odds for or against a head coach turning out good that began his coaching career 4-13?  I'll hang up and listen.

For every Jimmy Johnson or Bill Belichick or Pete Carroll there are 25 Rich Kotites.

He has shown LITERALLY ZERO game day coaching ability.  So FAR, he's a very highly paid PR man and has proven absolutely nothing other than that.

The few opportunities that he has had to distinguish himself with Xs and Os or game management situations, he has blundered miserably.

Bluster and positivity will only last so long.

Understood completely here.

The point I am trying to make is that last year, the team was so devoid of talent, entire games were like yesterday's second half.

We are at the point now, at least based upon this one game, that we have the talent to be competitive and possibly win, but we are learning how.  Last year, we didn't have the talent to be competitive in a game like this.

Huge difference...and again..this was without Bortles.

Never said that.

2 of them happened on one drive.  Both were deep sideline passes to Lee that bounced off his hands.

Of the first 3 drives that went 3 and out, the second one is all on Henne with a batted pass and two errant throws.

In the first drive, we ran it for 1 yard, got a 1 yard reception from Marcedes, and a slant to Todman that went for a whopping 3 yards.  There was no YAC on either pass.  Henne's fault apparently.

In the 3rd 3 and out, Henne basically threw the ball away on the first play because Barwin didn't bite on the play action and recognized it was a designed roll out.  Henne had to get rid of it to avoid a sack.  On the next 2 plays, Henne went deep to Lee throwing two good passes into coverage, and in both instances, Lee dropped the pass.  The first one was a little out in front of him, but he should have had it.  On the 2nd, the ball was dropped into double coverage where only Lee could make a play, and he muffed the catch.

I'm sorry but it makes no darn sense for this "young" team to "develop" with the future franchise QB on the bench. Why not let him grow and take his lumps right along with him? He's earned that opportunity.

I'd rather him learn on the field, grow and develop with his receivers and have his rookie mistakes now instead of next year. They're wasting developmental time in real live action.

He's shown he's mentally and physically ready from the scrimmage through all 4 preseason games.

Nobody is saying that Henne deserves ALL the blame. He's the starting qb that played a bad game overall, he deserves a good portion of the blame and I bet he'd tell you the same.

If this staff uses the reason for starting Henne that he gives the team the best chance to win, they're either blind or full of [BLEEP].

No, you and Pirkster have made it quite a habit to act like a child and belittle others. You've grown into quite possibly the biggest hypocrite on this board.

Three things that look most improved are receivers that get open, some semblance of a pass rush and speed at linebacker.

By pointing out that it's someone's prerogative to whine about a loss is childish, but the tantrum some are throwing because they didn't get their way with a win is a completely rational and mature response.  And I'm the hypocrite?

I see your point, but I also think there could be reasoning for him still being on the bench that we don't know about. He still might not have the playbook mastered. We do not know this. Only the People on the inside do. Plus, the OL is still shambles right now. I'd feel better if they simply put Bowanko in there and called it a season and let the OL start to finally develop with the 2 young kids in the middle. In about 4-5 weeks (hopefully) when they start to gel, then at that point if Bortles is ready, then put him in.

Nope.  It couldn't possibly be that Bortles isn't ready.  He looked great in the preseason.
