"The Plan": Coaching vs Management
|
Quote:I just posted a link. Took me about 30 seconds to find it.And I responded to your link. Point out where he said it was set in stone that Bortles would not play this year. "Probably 2015" is hardly definitive. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

But that interview was right after the draft. And Caldwell seems pretty clear he'd like Henne to start the entire year. Good for them that they are sticking with their plan. We saw the results yesterday of half of that plan. The other half is whatever Bortles is supposedly gaining from sitting. Saying they'd like to stick with Henne this year and being married to that position are two completely different things. They've been saying repeatedly that Bortles will start when he's ready. That's a pretty big window. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:Saying they'd like to stick with Henne this year and being married to that position are two completely different things. They've been saying repeatedly that Bortles will start when he's ready. That's a pretty big window. You're arguing semantics. The interview with Mike and Mike is right after the draft. Caldwell says they would like for Henne to start the entire year. "Being married to that position" is just a meaningless thing. Quote:I am not ok if they think getting 4-5 wins this year is enough. You're expecting too much from a forever non ending rebuilding team. We're supposed to suck in rebuilds until the 53rd man on the roster is starter quality. Dont expect to get a rookie quarterback like the Colts did and go to the playoffs a year after having a losing record. Or like the Chiefs who picked #1 in the draft and went to the playoffs in the same year. Cant hold the franchise to those expectations. We must suck in our rebuild until it's finished in however more years it takes. That's what the "sensible and rational" Jaguars fans will tell you. You and others who think like you are delusional. Just be happy with being in games these days. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:what are you talking about?the main problem this year and last year is that we couldn't run out the clock the clue is in the name no doubt henne wasn't very good and he missed some opportunities to move the chains but if you can't "run" the ball you won't be able to hold onto a lead. when we couldn't run the ball we had to pass to try and get any movement going which lead to incompletions giving the eagles more and more time. that wouldn't have changed with bortles or henne once the eagles got momentum it was a slippery slope Quote:Saying they'd like to stick with Henne this year and being married to that position are two completely different things. They've been saying repeatedly that Bortles will start when he's ready. That's a pretty big window.Any clue as to why and what it is that makes Bortles not ready? I am genuinely curious if the coaching staff has mentioned this AFTER the preseason. I know they are sticking to the "plan" but they developed this plan thinking that Bortles did not have the proper footwork/whatever BEFORE watching him play in the preseason. Obviously rookies will be rookies, and they will make mistakes. No one player, as a rookie, is immune to this from Peyton Manning to Andrew Luck. The kid has exceeded expectations of his play on the field, intelligence, and willingness to work and change mechanics. Let him take over the reigns at the QB position and let him learn and develop from the live-action. And to those who will relay this back to "ruining the QB like Gabbert"... Bortles is nowhere near inept as Gabbert, as far as sensing pressure and maneuvering within the pocket...
Quote:the main problem this year and last year is that we couldn't run out the clock I firmly believe that in the first 3 series of the 2nd half, Bortles would have at least once scrambled and extended the play, leading to either a completion for a first down or a scramble for a first down. Highly doubt he would've went 3 and out 3 series in a row, while the Eagles are putting points on the board.

Quote:Any cue as to why and what it is that makes Bortles not ready? I am genuinely curious if the coaching staff has mentioned this AFTER the preseason. It's probably the playbook. I think he'll be starting in just a couple of weeks.

I think he'll be starting in just a couple of weeks.Bortles seems to have a good basis of the playbook based off of the limited preseason action that we have seen - with him calling an audible into the correct play. Now this doesn't mean that he has a firm grasp on the ENTIRE playbook, but he sure as heck seems to be learning quick and understanding the game. Quote:I firmly believe that in the first 3 series of the 2nd half, Bortles would have at least once scrambled and extended the play, leading to either a completion for a first down or a scramble for a first down. Highly doubt he would've went 3 and out 3 series in a row, while the Eagles are putting points on the board.even so that would not have won us the game. even if he didn't go three and out, he might have moved the chains twice but being left on 3rd and 6+ on each 3rd down is not a recipe for success that's the main point I think the henne crowd try and make is bortles would make a difference but I don't think it's the difference between a win or a loss in phili or a 6 and 10 and a win in the first game of the playoffs so why not wait til he is fully developed Quote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zX4ox7aX_wc Like this x1000! I love this clip...though I HATE this applies to us. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
That game was earily similar to the Panthers game in 2003.

Quote:I was making the point that by listening to the media covering the Jags, as well as Gus and Dave - it almost appears that they're on a 5 year rebuild. Lol what are you talking about? Everyone I have heard said next year we should be competing for playoffs and division. This year was all about being better than last year. Not sure where you are getting the above from.
Quote:That game was earily similar to the Panthers game in 2003. Same thing happened on opening day 2012 at Minnesota too. Quote:we're not going to wait much longer, trust me on that.by fully develop i mean made his new footwork instinctive rather than forced, developed an understanding of the offense and better understanding of nfl coverages and adjusted to the pace of the nfl from what i saw in preseason i got week 7 against the browns or week 8 against the dolphins in my head i think a home game is the best time to start him i would go before the bye week to give you a week to solve any new issues that occur after he starts We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zX4ox7aX_wc I wish coaches would be this forthcoming again and display that kind of intensity
The emotion of being a fan is on full display with some in this thread. Making decisions in such an emotional state doesn't usually translate to the best course of action. I've seen some ridiculous theories such as Caldwell is forcing Bradley to play Henne because of a promise that he made. It wouldn't surprise me if those advancing such notions also believe 9/11 was an inside job and mankind has never been to the moon.
The only believable reason why Bortles isn't playing is that he is not ready and that Henne must have a better grasp of the entire offense. To believe anything else is... well, to believe in conspiracy theories. Just because Bortles showed well in the preseason does not indicate he has a grasp of the playbook that the coaching staff is comfortable trotting out there just yet. With the amount of time many posters have been on these forums, you'd think they'd have enough experience watching preseason football to know better than to rush to judgement based on what they saw in August. We all want to see Bortles in there and want to see him succeed. It's the making sure he can succeed part that the coaching staff is trying to get right. You don't want a situation where he goes in before being ready and it becomes obvious to any casual observer that he's not. Then the coaching staff's ability and decision making gets seriously called into question by more than just the overly emotional message board hand wringers. When he does go in and hopefully does well, I'm sure we'll get the "see I told you so" self-patting on the back from those demanding he start yesterday which will have no basis in fact, but they'll say it anyway. Meanwhile, the coaching staff will have known all along when he was ready to run the offense as they want it run. It's definitely football season on the Jaguars message board.

Just wait. It will only get louder if the team loses next week after Henne is Henne again. |
