Gus Bradley: "Chad Henne preformed efficiently"
|
Quote:The fourth and one foot that Henne threw to Lewis is considered a drop because Lewis touched the ball. Common sense says it wasn't a drop, but an errant throw. Henne played just like I expected him to play. Except I was surprised he threw the two long TD throws to Hurns. Even then did you notice that one of the TD throws was 5 foot behind him and the other throw was short? The pass was bad. If Marcedes were an incredible receiving TE maybe he dives for it and bails Henne out, but that play didn't go down as a drop because Marcedes isn't listed with any drops on the season. http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/drops/2014/ We show less advertisements to registered users. He was "efficient" in the first half... the second half he was "absent".
No pain, no gain.
Quote:Go down the list of offensive components and tell me what other one was better? The pass pro was OK. The run blocking was terrible. The TEs were non existent except to watch Lewis lumber like a new born giraffe with the hands of of a circus clown. Hurns was good for 4 plays, the rest of the WRs were invisible except to drop some really nicely thrown passes. The RBs were useless.Considering Hurns caught the only two touchdowns in the game and Henne went 2 for 14 on 3rd downs, I'd say Henne wasn't even close to being the best offensive component. The quarterback has more responsibility, but he shouldn't be at the position, let alone as a starter, if he can't handle it. Henne was not good yesterday. Lets not delude ourselves into thinking otherwise.
THERE IS A SKELETON INSIDE OF YOU.
RIGHT NOW. THIS IS NOT A JOKE.
my problem with henne and the coaching staff is that they seem like they don't actually evaluate his game on how he plays and looks on the field. it seems like they go home, look at the stats and say"Well that looks good," at call it a day. henne had one good quarter sunday, one quarter. after the defense couldn't gift the offense anymore short yardage field position, he remembered who he was. funny thing is, i knew it would happen. on one hand i was excited at what was happening in the first quarter, but at the same time i wished it wasn't happening. the reason is simple, i knew henne wasn't gonna keep it up. low and behold, the second quarter his play fell off. i knew right then in there because of his play in the first quarter, the coaching staff had something to fall back on when people bring his play up to the coaches. henne is a stat guy, hell make himself look somewhat good, but the team will most likely lose. he looks just good enough to start though, so he can say it wasn't his fault. but, do the coaches not know that there are 4 quarters to a football game? don't just look at one, and evaluate it, look at the full body of work. when they get home, henne will get booed off the field.
Quote: Actually I can guarantee you that they break down every single snap he played and have them all logged as fitting into categories of success and failure. They know and are aware of every failure by Henne, but they aren't going to talk about it in a press conference. Even when he's the back-up or gone from the roster they'll only hint at his shortcomings. It's just not how this works. You don't bash your quarterback from the coach's press podium. The guys that do don't usually last long and QBs in the future don't want to play for them or trust them. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Had those been catches late in the game Henne probably ends up with 300+ yards and that game is a lot closer. It's not all on Henne but he like the rest of the team has room for improvement which I expect to see versus Washington.
The Eagles are who we thought they were and we let 'em off the hook.
If you want to crown them, crown them!!!
I survived the Gus Bradley Error.
Quote:2/14 on third downs... "Efficient"... Okay.again.. he's not gonna throw his QB under the bus ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Here's the big issue. They said flat out that they would have taken blake #1 overall. If that's true, but they didn't think he could beat out henne/give them the best chance to win, WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING?
They're going through great pains to try to look incompetent right now. You have a guy at the top of your draft board, and then roll with "chad gives us the best chance right now". BS. Gus told ryan o that the offense wouldnt have to be scaled back for blake if he played, so what are we waiting for? He's at the same level as Chad (at least). The players have expressed similar feelings. So there's absolutely no excuse to waste time with the veteran right now. There just isn't. You should expect the guy at the top of your draft board to be an immediate difference maker for your team, not a clipboard holder for a guy who's already led your team to the bottom of the league for two straight years.
We shouldnt even be having this freaking conversation. There shouldnt be "start henne" people. If they didnt think he could beat out henne easily, then they were wrong to pick him. They cant have it both ways. The standard Henne has set is incredibly low.
Quote:If those drops wound up catches, his stats would have been better. Didn't happen. Exactly. If Hurns makes his catch or Lee makes that grab on the sideline. Not only does his stat sheet look better, but it would have obviously changed the end result of that football game. I do agree that change is coming. Being "efficient" doesn't mean you're safe by any means. Alex Smith was "efficient" in San Francisco during his last two years as a 49er and Harbaugh still knew it was time to put Kaepernick out onto the field. And this was after arguably one of the greatest performances you could have asked out of your QB during a critical play-off game at home. He played absolutley flawless against the Saints in that game a few years ago. With all that said, not to stray too far off the topic here with our team and our QB situation. Change is coming at QB. Bortles showcased enough during this pre-season to warrant that change sooner rather than later. Personally, if Henne plays like he did against the Eagles and we win this weekend against the Redskins. He'll probably keep his job for the rest of September. I personally think it would be awesome to see Bortles take the reigns and debut on Sunday, October the 5th against the Steelers here at home. And I think that's a realistic starting point for the kid. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. I love how fans somehow know whether Henne played poorly or not when they don't have access to coach's tape. Therefore, they have no idea what Henne was seeing or not seeing. They don't know if he read things wrong or right because tv doesn't show the coverages. According to Gus he played efficient which is a compliment. Boselli said that after watching the game tape Henne played well. and in no way should lose his job because of Sunday. I defer to the guys who know what they are watching on game tape.

I defer to the guys who know what they are watching on game tape. You clearly didnt hear about the entire press conference. People tweeted that Gus said he wanted henne to take more shots rather than just being "efficient" all the time. Efficient isnt a compliment. It's what you say when you have no tangible proof that the guy played well. It's coachspeak. And i saw some really bad short throws to wide open guys. I dont need tape to know that. Quote:Here's the big issue. They said flat out that they would have taken blake #1 overall. If that's true, but they didn't think he could beat out henne/give them the best chance to win, WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING? So you must start a QB on opening day if you drafted him high? Otherwise it was a wasted pick? It's up fathomable that a guy could be at the top of your board yet still require time to develop? Teams don't draft a player for anything beyond opening day? Take a deep breath. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Nice to know you are a mind reader. I don't disagree he shouldn't take more shots downfield, but to say he played poorly is simply incorrect. That's just mindless fanspeak. But good to know that you have mnore knowledge of the coach's tape than the guys that have actually watched it.

I'm not talking the first quarter, the game as a whole, that was good enough to you? What standard are you going by? |
