Gus Bradley: "Chad Henne preformed efficiently"

Quote:He performed efficiently, we were pleased with how he played" Bradley told reporters on Monday. Bradley also noted that he and offensive coaches thought Henne had a good command of the offense against the Eagles and did a good job with his decision making.

"Those things stood out," Bradley said.

Henne finished the day completing 24-of-43 passes for 266 yards and a touchdown, however the Jaguars converted just two of their 14 third downs on the say, punting five straight times to open the second half. The team burned all of their timeouts in the second half quickly, which Bradley attributed to the youth at the receiver position and players not lining up correctly.

"Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, if he gets angry, he's a mile away and barefoot."

everyone played great huh we just "left some opportunities on the field" and got whooped by 34 points in the 2nd half.

He's never going to throw the starting QB under the bus. Henne is their guy until they fell confident enough sending out Bortles, I hope it's sooner than later but until then you'll get nothing but positive reports about Henne.

you don't have to throw anyone under the bus.

you can say he was efficient in the 1st half but the entire offense was inefficient in the 2nd half, and that it needs to improve.

So frustrating but they are sticking to the plan.

If those drops wound up catches, his stats would have been better.  Didn't happen.

Calling your starting QB efficient isn't what I would consider to be a compliment.  Especially when they're talking about how they want the offense to be more aggressive.  Efficient may buy him another start or two, but I think you're seeing the first signals that change is coming.

As far as doing a good job with decision making, he didn't have any picks.  He didn't make the typical boneheaded mistakes that are his trademark.  He got lucky on a couple of passes that COULD have wound up interceptions, but at least for his sake, the stat line looks decent enough.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

You're over-thinking his comment.  Gus is never going to trash any player.  It's simply not his style.  Still, when the best your head coach can say is you were efficient, and your decision making was good, that's not saying much.

He doesn't need to (and shouldn't) trash anyone.

But you can be more honest with the evaluation.  Henne was very efficient in the first half, but the entire offense was inefficient in the 2nd half and struggled to move the ball.  That will have to improve.

I hope your interpretation is correct.

Henne QBR was middle of the pack. He didn't carry the team to victory but he was far from horrible as some try to portray.

You can say that for every QB in the league. They had three drops. It's not like they had 10.

if you look at stats only - sure he's middle of the pack

I hate hearing him say that too.  Especially after a loss like that.

That said... I wouldn't want Gus to just throw Bortles out there after saying "Henne has been bad, so we're going to give the Rookie a shot."  or in coach speak "We think we're ready to move on to Blake, and we're going to give him a chance to start."

I'd much rather it be along the lines of "Blake is ready to take over the starting job.  Chad's done his part, and he did what we wanted him to do."

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

We are using a stat invented by ESPN?

Or you can look at the fact that a lot of QBs Sunday didn't even play up to Henne's level.

All 3 drops were on deeper passes.  If all 3 were caught, the entire dynamic of the game could have changed.  We'll never know.

ESPN didn't invent the quarterback rating.

That's been around long before ESPN.

you'll be hard pressed to find someone that played worse than our offense did in the 2nd half.

Henne isn't even average.  We scored 17 points, 14 off of turnovers, and struggled to move the ball, especially in the 2nd half.  I don't need to look at a made-up statistic to tell me how Henne played.

I don't have a problem with them saying he played efficient.

The "we were pleased with how he played" is the part I have an issue with.
