Bradley didn't say no...

What is your point?

So, is it ok if Bortles gets hurt the first game of next season - where he is "supposed to start"?

No, its not. Injuries happen JaguarsWoman, whether you play now or later.

If you are scared that a player will get injured, then he should NEVER play.

My point is you don't want to see Bortles play behind this crappy line and get hurt because five guys in front of him suck. If we wait until the line is better at protecting him  he is less likely to get hurt early in his career.

Quote:Agreed, but I think it'll be a bit sooner. Bortles starts the home opener.

I just don't see it. I hope I am wrong.

And how would you feel if he gets hurt when he plays behind a line that is SUPPOSEDLY "better"?

I'd like to know if BB is starting Sunday so I have some time to sell my tickets for pennies on the dollar if he isn't.

You guys make it sound like Blake Bortles is a freaking TWIG...

Kid is 6'5" 240lbs.

You know how Ben Roethlisberger plays, right?

Well at the very least if you're down by 24 points with 4 minutes left in the game let Bortles get in the game to get some experience at game speed. You're not really asking him to drive down the field and bring the team back, you're asking him to run plays at regular game speed. You're asking him to read defenses and go through progressions. You're asking him to check off plays at the LOS based upon the defense you see.

I am sure you could find some Colts fans that would give you 10 cents on the dollar.

I wouldn't have predicted this soon prior to this game, but the offense lacked intensity from start to finish. At a minimum, I think Blake can bring that.

Quote:Then why have people been saying on this board since the JDR days we have a zone blocking scheme? Not zone stretch. Zone blocking. I have been a member of this board for a long time and none of the zillion posts I read mentioned us running a power O out of I formation.
Idk what you have heard, but we mostly ran power O with MJD and FT. We were not a zone blocking team until recently.

Zone stretch/zone blocking... its the same thing. Zone stretch is just the play we have been using poorly this season where the line and back run sideways until finding the open lane or run to the sideline.

I dont care for it, but WAS ran the same exact play effectively today.

Disappointed, but not mad at the coaching staff.

And what if he doesn't get hurt if we put him in now - and we win 6 games, as opposed to 2 games with Henne?

Exactly. Tom Coughlin did that very thing with Eli Manning his rookie season. The Giants were getting spanked (I forget who they were playing) so they pulled Kurt Warner and let Eli get some playing time. I still remember Eli rolling to his right and almost getting clotheslined by a defender because he wasn't looking where he was going. A few weeks later they made the switch permanently. That's what I was hoping they would do with Bortles today, but alas....
10 years ago we had Bob Hope, Johnny Cash, and Steve Jobs..... Please don't die, Kevin Bacon.

I said part of the problem. Gerhart definitely needs to play better and be more decisive, but he's getting hit right after he takes the handoff far too much.

Quote:This comes down to a question of patience guys (and girls). The more patient approach says sit blake the rest of the way, giving caldwell and gus a pass, and all but ensuring they'll be here another 2 years.

Or, we could get bortles experience this year so that he's more prepared heading into next year. That way year 3 can be a fair evaluation of the regime

But if he sits all year, caldwell and gus can fall back on next year being his de facto rookie year if things dont go well. It almost guarantees them a 4th year no matter what things look like
Patience is earned more than just given.  You expect to see growth and improvement.  When we just got destroyed 41-10 by a team that was on a 9 game losing  streak there is a problem.

Insanity:  Doing the same thing thing over and over again and expecting different results

Please do not ask us to be insane because some fans  and this staff choose to be.

The problem with that idea is you make it look like Blake Bortles never played in preseason. Did he not play in all four preseason games? And if you put him out there for spot duty, he would only play to win because of his competitive nature. So it really would not work out that way. We tried the same thing with Blaine Gabbert and it did not help him at all. Just a personal preference, I would rather see him take his first regular season NFL snap at home anyway.
