In this NFL, no, there is no place for that. If barely touching a QB'S face mask warrants a 15 yard penalty and this is a legal play, then the NFL has some major issues on how they are trying to protect players.

yeah again, i disagree man. they are definitely trying to protect the qb and players heads, but in that situation, foles is no longer considered the QB, he is a defensive player trying to make a tackle and he got the heck blocked out of him. if that was a DB and he was about to tackle shady and Foles came in and laid the same hit, the media and everyone would be talking about how BA that play was and showing it in the top ten.

Not to be devils advocate here, but that happens all the time to other offensive players/defenders when a turnover happens.  That's why you always see Manning/Brady run away.  Foles just happened to not look, and he caught a block he could not see coming.

I didn't have a problem with the severity of the hit, or to whom it was administered.

 

I did have a problem with the timing.  It was a late hit.  The runner was on his way to the ground when it happened.  It was completely unnecessary, and the flag was warranted.

I'm not arguing whether it is legal hit or not, I just don't think that type of play has any business being in the NFL if they are trying to protect players.

I can see where people think it wasn't dirty, and I don't fault anyone for that stance.....but the runner was going down, and that was pure head hunting.  That guy knew there was an interception and he went after the other teams qb to hurt him.

 

Peters got a nice lick in at the end there.  Good for him....he should have hit him again.

I finally saw the play today. I will start off by saying that I am shocked that the NFL didn't fine with the day and age we are in (The NFL created).

 

That being said, I am glad he wasn't. QB's are football players. Foles shouldn't have been drifting toward the runner if he didn't want the potential to be blocked. Head on a swivel doesn't apply anymore because the rules are so tilted toward skirt wearing. Play with some awareness rather then falling back on a rule and hoping it gets flagged.

 

I also have nothing wrong with Foles teammates coming to his defense like that.
