Quote:All he said was that the team should be competitive. Do you disagree?
Thats hard to answer. Were we competitive before these guys took over? If we were losing 20-27 in 2011 and 2012 then yeah but we was getting blown out then too. Caldwell either keeps the guys who went 2-14 the year before or start over.

I wasn't really looking for a competitive team in year 3 to be honest. This year was about finding guys to build around and seeing improvements.

I don't think I've ever seen a defense leave so many people wide open.....its like taking candy from a baby for the professionals on the other team.

Quote:There's a team in our own division that went from worst to first in our division just by adding Andrew Luck.

Nobody is saying we should be making the playoffs, but we need to be competitive.   Win a game now and then you know.
The cotls had Reggie Wayne, Mathis, Freeney, Bethea and played in a poor division. They had players around this guy when he stepped in. Who's next? What did Bradley have that was comparable to 3 hall of famers in this roster when he took over.

The also had an up and coming Castanzo and Jeff Saturday was there the rookie year I believe.

Way too many big plays given up. Lots of soft zone vanilla coverage. Just don't get it.

What improvements?

The team is dead last on defense in nearly every statistical category.

And don't get me started on the offense, although I will admit it looked much, much better with Bortles under center. But before that? I don't even have to look it up to know the team had not reached double digit 3rd down conversions until Bortles started playing.

well like I said, I don't expect us to be a perennial playoff team like the Colts are.

they did it in 1 offseason... we've had 2.... and I'm still not saying we should be winning 10+ games this year....

But we SHOULD be in games.  We should be able to force a few punts here and there.  We should win at least 6 games in year 2 of a rebuild, or the rebuild isn't going as planned.

I mean, what's the plan?

go 4-12, then 4-12 again, then maybe 6-10, then maaaaybe talk playoffs?

I'm sick of hearing "just get better, the wins will come in bunches"... well, when will the wins come?

The defense sucks, if it wasn't for the fluke eagles game they would look even worse statistically.

Not competitive like competing for a playoff spot. Competitive like able to compete with other NFL team.

I'll ask you, what team do you know has ever put itself in a position like that in the first place?

I'll give you a hint: The GM that put us here, is still working for this team.
The patherns haven't had a winning season since 2008. They went 2-14 in 2010 that's how they ended up with Cam Newton. They just mad the playoffs and had a winning season for the first time 2013. Cam Newtons 4th year in the league. They already had Greg Hard, Beason and Steve Smith. They drafted Star, Luke since then. What did Caldwell have that was close to that when he cam in here.

For one we are getting sacks at least. That does mean we are getting pressure occasional as opposed to never. The offense looks decent now and we have players we can build around on that side of the ball for sure. Cyp is a guy we can build around.

Come on guys, the team is clearly doing better since Bortles started. And the two int didn't help, but we expect that with a rookie. And Chargers are really good. I would bet dollars to donuts we are gonna look just fine when we hit a not so good team like the tacks....

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

No, they made the playoffs in year 3 with Cam.

They went from 6 wins in his rookie year to 7, to 12....

Progress.

Since you brought up 2012...

That year the team went 2-14. Of the 14 losses, there were blowouts. But they also had losses by 3 (overtime at MIN), 3 (overtime at OAK), 9 (at GB), 6 (overtime at HOU), 7 (NYJ) and 7 (NE). Wake me up when Bradley starts losing close games.

No I didn't see that to be honest. We weren't competitive before Caldwell came. He had no players that were elite to build around going forward. He has had to bring in every player that is currently doing anything on this team right now. The guys that were here before he came had a 2-14 record and had the salary cap to the wall. Why would he hold on to them? What would the reasoning be to keep over paid players who can't win. Might as well draft new young, cheap guys and develop them. You were gonna lose with what was already here.

I understood that when they came here and figured it would take about 3 years to field a competitive team. That was if we found a qb in the draft and get a little lucky with some guys like Hurns and Bowanko. Looks to be right on schedule in my mind.

Right on schedule?

Was this the schedule?

2013: Get slaughtered for half the season, win 4 of 5 against terrible teams, lose final 3

2014: Repeat 2013

The Panthers were devoid of talent similar to the Jaguars when Cam Newton arrived. That 2-14 season they had Hardy who had shown nothing to that point, and Beason who suffered a career altering injury. The very next year they managed to win 6 games. 6-10 is a losing record, but it's a record that indicates the team was only a few games away from being .500, and Carolina lost a couple nailbiters that year with what was arguably a harder schedule than the year before

And year three of the Rivera era? 12-4. That is a rebuild.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here, but mine is that there's no excuse for being this bad in year 2. None at all.
