Telvin Smith

You don't do that with MLB.  It's done with an OLB.  Which is fine, since that's who Telvin is.

Are you guys referring to a Tampa 2 (ish) style? Because it's similar to a cover 3 with the MLB dropping back medium/long to cover the center 1/3rd of the field. Urlacher was the last one I can recollect being great at it. They got to be able to take on and shed oline blocks as a mlb would but have the speed to take away deep seem routes too. Its a good chunk of field to cover. I agree that Telvin has the speed.

Quote:I think he could play the middle, but the defense would have to be changed to accomodate a smaller guy. It could work out great, since he's much better in coverage than Poz it may help the TE coverage. In 2000, when injuries forced the Jags to play Mike Logan at LB (although not MLB), the defense actually improved a lot. Hopefully that happens in this case too.

I agree whole heartedly. I just hope they dont "re-invent the wheel" because it seems they are just beginning to understand their responsibilities.

Sam Mills was fairly small. 5'8ish and 230. Did he play inside or outside?

CJ Mosley was listed at 6' 2", 234 around the time of the draft iirc also.

I know this concept is foreign. But we are allowed to have fast linebackers.

if you go too small then teams will run the ball all day

Telvin fits the system. Bryant, marks, and miller are doing a great job of eating up blocks in the running game, and allowing the LBS to make plays. If we can get two more Telvins, our front 7 will be set. Looking forward to seeing the expanded roles for both Thomas and Smith.

Exactly. People should know this by now.

It's probably why Seattle is struggling to stop the run this season. They don't have red Bryant eating up blocks to free their LBs. Luckily, we do have bryant, miller, and marks. Abry Jones looks like a good rotational guy like Tony McDaniel was for the Seahawks last season.

You're talking real life.

They're talking Madden.

Telvin's an OLB.  Those getting their hopes up, shouldn't until they hear it from Gus.

Just as the coaches have said, it's Reynolds, Thomas, and George in the middle.

Want to start him at MLB?  That's what Madden is for.

That may be so. Mike Peterson was 225-228 when he was in JAX. But he did have Stroud And Henderson in front of him

Just to clarify the OP is talking about weight people, not height. London Fletcher/Sam mills type guys is not what he is talking about.

Malcolm Smith doesn't start. In fact all of Seattle's starting linebackers are all over 240 pounds.
