Yes it is. EVERYone was for the Del Rio extension in 2007.

Its not news and I never claimed that I wasn't for it.

That said, I was the quickest one in 2008 to realize it went belly up and we made a huge mistake. All the while, people like pirk, probably you, and most of the message board was still defending Del Rio until the literal day of his firing 3 years later.

So you were right about Del Rio, except when you were wrong. Got it.

Wait a second, you noticed things went belly up in 2008?  How?  What insight you have!

Like the other poster, I skipped the majority of this thread and just read the last two pages. I doubt I missed much with the rest of it.  I just don't understand the OP's logic or TMD latching onto this thread like a tick to a cow.... Bradley is a crappy coach and will never lead us to the promised land because he celebrated a much needed win with his players. Ummmm...... I thought that's what coaches were supposed to do. In all the years I've watched this game, I cannot ever recall a coach walking into the  locker room after a win and saying " Yeah, you guys won, but it had to be luck because you STILL SUCK ... NOW HIT THOSE SHOWERS AND I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ANY OF THAT HAPPY-HAPPY- JOY-JOY CRAP !"

No, it's no-blinders week. The progress has come over the last three games. You can see it, you just have to look at a wider view than just wins and losses. Before you say it, wins are important. In the case of a total rebuild, they don't tell anything close to the whole story.

This thread couldn't wait till next week? I get what you're saying but a young team needed verification in the worst way.

No pain, no gain.

Gus is exactly what this young immature team needs.  Dave hired Gus knowing this.  As the team matures so will Gus.  TMD is wrong.

That's all !

And the locker room postgame is proof of that. They all bought in to his new motto. He got them fired up. Who cares if jumping and chanting "We believe in victory!" is weird if it works?

TMD is wrong about a lot of things.

Quote:That I wanted the extension at that point is irrelevant. When I said the above quote Jack's arrow was still pointing up. Well, it all came crashing down in quick order.

You sit there all proud as if that means anything.

The fact is by the end of the 2008 season Jack needed to go. I was correct in that assessment. You and others defended Jack until he was eventually fired. There was no reason to per his performance by late 2008.
It just proves that your opinions are completely worthless and all you do is talk out of your rear.

Quote:So because we have one win and are 1-6 suddenly the sky is the limit and everything we did previous to this one win is completely invalidated.

Now THAT is a knee-jerk reaction.

I am excited too guys, but lets not get crazy here. Ah who am I kidding, it is already CRAAAAZAAAYYYYYYYYY
Did I miss something?  Perhaps I have been wooshed.

Who said this?

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

This is by far the dumbest thread of the year, and that's saying a lot since JW holds dumbest threads 2-10 now.

No it doesn't prove that at all.

Everyone wanted the JDR extension in 2007. Just because everyone wanted it at that point doesn't mean that you stick the heels in the ground and not call him out in 2008 when he did a lousy job. I realized in 2008 that he needed to go, (and was right), and the majority of the rest of you stuck by your incorrect opinion that JDR wasn't a problem. If anyone's opinions were completely worthless its the people that defended JDR until his firing.

Too bad.

Spin away TMD.   The proof is right there to see.   You were thrilled about a 5 YEAR extension for Jack Del Rio.  "I think Jack is a very good head coach."    LOL     Later you did one of your typical flip-flops.

You're defense is that you rushed to judgement and later you were proven wrong.    Gee... sounds kinda familiar.   Same as it ever was.   Too funny.

Nice find Pirk.

The lesson to be learned was the length of the contract extension was the problem. Del Rio DID deserve the contract extension following his 2007 season. Thats not even up for debate. I wasn't wrong there. 5 years worth was much too long however. Contract length was the issue. When everything went south as soon as 2008, they were stuck/ handcuffed. Thats the lesson that should have been learned there. Hell, Bradley didn't even get 5 years on his INITIAL contract... So, seems evolution is working.

Chief Jag is usually a voice of reason on here and if he has a problem with Gus my respect for his opinion is high enough that I want to pay attention to what he says.  TMD, well, no one can say he isn't a Jaguars fan.  That said, my hopes for Gus lie in being a developmental coach.  JDR was supposed to bring us an amazing defense, which it seemed strong for a while there.  Mularkey was supposed to install a sophisticated offense... well he brought the receivers coach Sullivan in.  But during those years we watched a lot of highly touted players turn to mush... maybe that's just because it's hard to make it in the NFL.

The main reason I want to believe in Gus (besides my teal-colored glasses) is that he seems like the sort of person that can elevate a practice squad type of player to a real contributor.  We've seen so many physically talented players come in and be mental busts.  I think that every draft class is only going to have a few guys that are physically gifted in all of the right ways AND have a solid mentality and a go-to-work attitude.  That means you can only really have a few Bosellis at once and the rest are either deficient physically or mentally.  So in my eyes the main role that Gus fills is reaching the talent and getting their heads right.  Everyone on the roster talks about getting better every game, improvement, a right attitude.  This is old-school Earl Nightingale stuff and I think that 20-something physically gifted players need exactly that to prepare for a career in the NFL.

I know (from personal experience) that developing a healthy perspective takes time, that race to maturity is more like a marathon to maturity.  It would be great if the roster was full of people that are complete packages already, but I think that Gus is a better talent developer than the previous regimes.  It might just be that by the time we think our roster is full of mature players we'll see success with or without Gus.

Gus shouldn't need pro bowl level players at every position before he can win, though.

Good coaching gets the absolute most out of what you already have.

I don't believe that Bradley has done that. 1-6, (5-18) and a league worst point differential 2 years running is not getting the most out of the current talent base.

JImmy Johnson, with a roster of largely no names in 1990 (his 2nd year) was already showing significant improvement. His defense only gave up 300 points for the season and his team finished 7-9. Gus might not even match his 4-12 from last year....Thats unacceptable.
