Coaches on the hot seat
|
Lovie and Wiz aren't likely to be fired barring HUGE issues that come to head.
Quote:I'd say here's where everybody stands: Dennis Allen is in a bad situation and I think he's a lot better than the 0-7 record his team has. That Raiders team is the dumpster fire of all dumpster fires. From top to bottom that organization has major issues to be corrected. They need to blow that up, from GM to coaches to players. Rex Ryan is as good as done. Mike Smith should be done. That team has fallen apart over the last couple seasons. They're something like 6-18 since the 2012 Championship loss. That's not going to get him another year, in my opinion. I think Doug Marrone is safe barring a Buffalo collapse. Making the QB switch from Manuel to Orton likely saved him his job. Sammy Watkins is a stud. They're a possible playoff team this year. I think Philbin ends up with one more year but would not be shocked to see him gone. Especially if Harbaugh becomes available. We all know how badly the Dolphins wanted Jim. Unfortunately I think Coughlin is done and I could see him calling it a career. He's one heck of a coach and one of my favorite people league-wide. What a career he's had. Fisher being sent packing would not surprise me either. The results have not shown themselves in STL. He's not had a good QB there, in his defense, but that's partly his problem too. Austin Davis isn't the answer but has played better than expected given the situation. If the Bengals continue their downward trend I could see either Marvin Lewis resigning or being let go. Though I thought he'd be gone a few years ago and here he is still coaching them. Tomlin is an interesting one as the Steelers aren't known to cut ties with coaches often. I think his Super Bowls give him more time. He's pretty much tied to Big Ben. I like Jason Garret and would be interested to see him on a Jerrah-less team. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Dennis Allen has already been fired. That verb should be was, not is.
What downward trend? The Bengals have only 2.5 losses and sit on top of the AFC North. Jim Harbaugh said no the first time. Why should he say yes on Miami's second attempt?
Quote:Dennis Allen has already been fired. That verb should be was, not is.That tie, are you sure its not half a win instead of half a loss?
Quote:That tie, are you sure its not half a win instead of half a loss? Half a win AND half a loss. Quote:Dennis Allen has already been fired. That verb should be was, not is. Same difference. They started hot and haven't continued that trend. I never said Jim would say yes. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Are you sure about that? Yep. For playoff race purposes the NFL needs to count ties that way. Quote:I don't think Ken Whisenhunt will be fired either, but Titans fans probably already think he was a bad hire. Lovie Smith has a better chance of winning some more games this season. I'm not sure what Tennessee fans realistically were expecting this season. With an unsettled QB situation, a team using a different Defensive system, and having only one player that seems like even being close to a difference maker on the entire roster, the prognosis for 2014 looked questionable at best. With the investment Tennessee made in luring Ken Whisenhunt to Nashville when two other teams had significant interest in his services, I think he will probably get at least two more seasons to see if he can help turn that franchise around.
Great post there. Scarecrow.
I agree with D6 on Whiz and Lovie, they won't be fired after just a year IMO.
Season Ticket holder since 2004.

Here's a question how would the dolphin players react to Jim?
He said no to them once, and then took Martin to the Niners, he's been known to lose the dressing room anyways.
Quote:Here's a question how would the dolphin players react to Jim? Jim Harbaugh did not take anybody to the 49ers. He is just a coach and got the 49ers job before Martin was drafted IIRC. Martin is just happy to be out of Miami.

Quote:Coaches don't take players to their teams. General managers do. You look like an idiot when you say otherwise. So you seriously don't think Harbaugh had anything to do with Martin going to the niners? It's like Allen Hurns, Jedd Fisch sure had nothing to do with getting him at the Jaguars, if you don't think HCs have influence on which players are signed you're the idiot. Quote:Coaches don't take players to their teams. General managers do. You look like an idiot when you say otherwise.Coaches, especially certain coaches, sure do bring player to their teams. It's not as black and white as you're making it.
Quote:So you seriously don't think Harbaugh had anything to do with Martin going to the niners? It's like Allen Hurns, I did not say that. I am saying it is not the coach's decision to let a player he knows form college join the team. Saying Jim Harbaugh took Martin to the 49ers means he signed Martin, not the 49ers GM Baalke.

Jim Harbaugh was the driving force for Jonathan Martin to land in San Francisco. If not for Harbaugh's influence, Martin would be on the verge of his NFL career coming to an end. I still have visions of Bears DE Willie Young having a field night in SF when Martin was the 49ers RT because of the injury to Anthony Davis.
If Harbaugh ends up with the Dolphins, I don't think it will be a significant problem with Dolphins players. Martin has practically no chance of landing back in Miami. With the way NFL rosters turn over, most of the Dolphins players on Offense from Martin's relatively brief stay with the team will have already been off the Dolphins roster. The vast majority of the players at the time Harbaugh rejected the Dolphins in 2011 are already a memory in Miami.
Coaches definitely have pull in bringing players they know in. Look at Hurns, Clemons, Red Bryant to name a few that stayed. Didn't Thurmond visit because of Bradley and someone else too.

It is not the coach's job to give the player a contract. Therefore, the coach does not bring a player to his team. What is so hard to understand? |
