Hahah yikes dude.... It's football. And if I did jump off a bridge onto concrete I would make sure the bridge wasn't very tall so when I land I don't die.

True they'll likely end 2-14 this this season, though that'll be 11-37 in 3 years

Quote:and the regime before that?

Why do people even bring this up?  I see it in thread after thread.  (references to prior regimes)  They hit the reset button in January 2012.  Nothing before that sets any precedent for where this team is headed and what progress it will make over the course of this season and the upcoming offseason.  I know you may not be trying to imply that specifically, Frailbones, but  many posters  have lately  - and I think it's crazy talk.

If you want to go around thinking 2015 will suck because of something Gene Smith or Shack Harris or Jack Del Rio did -  go right ahead -  but you'd be a moron for doing it.  Nothing before 2012 matters anymore.  The starters left from that period can be counted on one hand.

Caldwell has brought in some quality young talent and most of it is still green. Khan just stated (3 days ago) that the team has the luxury of being more active in FA this year.  There is finally a young QB on the roster that wants to throw downfield -  but he needs some time in the film room and a little more help up front.  Those are the reasons to be hopeful about 2015 being a very different season.

The biggest issue with this team right now is that the players who ought to be the core aren't even on the roster anymore (Gene's 4 1sts for example). The same thing is being said about the Bears, they have a handful of players from the '09 - '12 drafts. No one with a functioning brain can't see that their skill players are much better than ours right now, but they are still getting destroyed because they have a general lack of talent after the top 5 or 6 guys. The Jags are in the same boat and no one can fix that it the time frame (some) people are pushing here.

Very true.  I worded that part poorly.  I only meant that lumping the current regime's "build through the draft" approach in with the struggles of prior regimes is misguided.

As you point out - what those prior GM's didn't do is hurting us. Specifically - hitting on first round picks. The first round from 2004 to 2011 leave us with Alualu and Lewis. Both of whom have only played remotely like their draft position in shorts spurts. Monroe would be the only other decent pick in that span and I'm sure any Ravens fan will tell you he wouldn't go 8th overall in a re-draft.

exactly... most posters on this board buy into the delusion that it takes 3+ seasons to completely rebuild.... Negative. A good rebuild can happen in one season. Keep buying in guys....

Quote:Lol this is so true. I remember just a few years ago Dallas had the worst offensive line and people were calling Tyron Smith a bust after his first year in the league. Three years and drafts later they have the best line in the league. It is what it is. Either you have the football knowledge and experience to know this is how it works or not. I don't expect many people who have really watched football for three year and don't pay much attention to the draft to understand this line of think you displayed.

The cowboys also swiched up the coaching staff every off season since Garrett has been the HC.  Drafting talent and getting the right coaching staff in place are BOTH important.

What other choice do we have, guys? If you get sick and tired of hearing next year over and over and don't want to deal with it anymore, you'll do one of two things. You'll either switch teams or you'll continue to support and continue to hold out hope. I'll say this.. I hope players, coaches, and front office personnel don't share some of your mentalities or you're right, we'll never be relevant. The whole "we're going to suck next year, and the next year, and the year after that too" thing is getting old and pointless. Why are you still here? I mean, if I truly believed we were going to continue to suck for the next 3+ years, I don't think I'd be willing to stick around for that long. Its tough enough when it's 5-6 games into the season and you accept you're not going to be very good for the rest of the year, but the only thing that makes it worth it is the belief that this team is going to improve and has the possibility to be better next year. All these people saying we are going to suck for all these years to come.. I have a question. You going to stick around through all those years when you "know" we are going to suck? If so, all power to ya. Maybe my loyalty isn't where it needs to be.. but that'd be tough on anyone.

We suck. We're gonna lose. My patience for optimism and fan boy conjecture has run out. Until we start winning solid games consistently, the fact of the matter is we suck, we're gonna lose.

Yes this year sucks. Its a disappointment. But in reality we are better than last year. Last year the games that we won the other team killed themselves with turnovers and penalties. That team did not play like a 4 win team. This year is the opposite. We are killing ourselves with stupid penalties and turnovers and are better than a 1 win team, at this point.

We are what our record says we are.  They shouldn't get pats on the back for keeping some games close.

This offseason the team will go on a spending spree. Khan said as much during a recent interview in London. We have the most cap room in the league, and are going to be forced to spend it. With an influx of another 3 pro bowlers maybe, experience for all the young players, and another top 5 pick draft class along with Justin Blackmon returning, this team will be ready to give the fans something to watch every weekend.

Influx of another 3 pro-bowlers?  You're dreaming buddy.  That's not gonna happen.  And it's hard to put all your eggs in one off-season basket and expect some great free agency additions.  Most of the real difference makers get franchised anyway.

The past two years have been painful, and it could have been a lot less painful if the team went out and spent a bit in free agency. But what would it have been for? to go 6-10 instead of 4-12 or 3-13? Who cares about that? Better to have the young players get experience, and then bring in difference makers in FA when the team is ready to compete.

I actually do want to see us at 6-10 instead of 4-12.  It would be one objective way to say "hey, this rebuild is going as it should be"... right now, it sure doesn't look like it is.

The offense this year is playing with so much youth, probably an unprecedented amount. That is obviously not good for this year, but well help TONS in 2015. Thats what the past 2 years have been about. 2015. Direct your anger at Gene Smith for leaving the roster with ZERO difference makers, and forcing Caldwell to basically replicate an expansion team without the extra draft picks. If the team was ready to compete before 2015 Caldwell would have spent accordingly, but they were not.

Not sure if starting this many rookies will help tons.  Sometimes rookies don't make that jump and don't get better from year 1 to year 2.  You have plenty of examples of those types of players on this very roster.  Simply asserting we will get better because we're so young is inaccurate and wishful thinking.

Those calling for everyone being fired need to stop. You have no clue what youre talking about. If you want to do that in November of 2015, go ahead. But doing so right now is moronic.

You also may not know what you're talking about, so I would refrain from making statements like this last one in the future.

I don't think anyone needs to get fired right now.  If we end up something like 3-13 or worse, then yes - I do think it's time for somebody to go.  You can't say that "things are going as planned" can you?

Well Mr Khan said in one of the London videos that the organization feels that they are about where they thought they would be this year...He feels we should have a few more wins but with the 3 games we gave away we are where they felt they would be at this time and he's encouraged by what he sees...In reality that is all that matters

On what planet is Luke Joeckel a "good player"...? I call him the drum. In big time passing situations this year (3rd and long... when good tackles get the job done) he has been routinely beaten like a drum.

He's definitely a bust as a #2 pick in the draft.

He may get better with time, but I don't ever believe he will play like the #2 pick in the draft.

As it stands right now, he should have been drafted much lower then he was.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

Who should the Jaguars have taken instead of Joeckel at #2?
