FSU's Game Against Florida Showed Us All Something Today...

Quote:Judging from the ACC...it seems like we're trend setters! Guess I'll pull for the Titans to show how AFC South is awesome. What a great idea! We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Will you cheer for the Titans if they're playing the team that we're up against for a wild card spot?
Pretty much same thing.
Quote:Will you cheer for the Titans if they're playing the team that we're up against for a wild card spot? Completely not the same as taking division credit for how the Colts do in the Super Bowl. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
Quote:Will you cheer for the Titans if they're playing the team that we're up against for a wild card spot? That's actually a good example, and I admit I will be pulling for them in that scenario. But that will be a bitter pill to swallow, not a source of "pride" which is what the SEC folks are telling me is the reason for the SEC chants. Also, the SEC chants is more the norm, rather than the exception (as in the case you mentioned of the Wildcard example) to the rule We show less advertisements to registered users. On the other hand, in college conference success virtually always is helpful to your team in terms of what bowl they go to or their chance to make it into the championship. Which is why that cheering is much more common.
If Clemson, Notre Dame, and FSU's other top opponents had won out instead of losing to other teams would FSU be #4? Quote:How is it different? Do you hate your rivals any less for College Football? Because you're voted in based on different factors in college football
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Which is why that cheering is much more common. So why isn't this true when it comes to Duke/UNC in College basketball where similar rules apply (as far as SoS affecting seeding for March Madness). Like I said in my previous post, SEC College Football seems to be the only instance of this in any major sport that I can think of. And again, there's a difference in wanting them to win if it helps you win something (like your example with the tacks) from just celebrating that they are winning...even if your own team, (UF in this discussion)...is not involved in the playoffs Quote:Because you're voted in based on different factors in college football And they don't in College basketball? Is it 2 like it used to be with football or 4 like it is now?

Quote:How many teams get a shot at the title in college bball? True, the field in CBB is larger, but if your argument is that SoS helps to make the playoffs (or in CFB system, the bowl games...which let's face it...Universities STILL want because of the money they bring and why there's not a full fledged playoff system in CFB), then that argument applies to CBB also. Besides, as I commented earlier, I can see scenarios...specific scenarios that would benefit your team why you'd pull for another team in your division/conference. But that's not what happens with SEC. Fans from teams who were already eliminated...sitting at home, with nothing to gain from the games, pulled for Auburn or Bama to win their respective championship titles...all for the sake of SEC supremacy. Newsflash... Just because they were good enough to win the championship, doesn't mean squat to how good your team or your conference was. |
