Bortles vs. Luck

He's made it his mission to try and convince us that Luck is just ...ok. I don't get it. But it doesn't matter. The Jaguars will certainly get their chances.

19 people voted for Bortles... I wasn't one of the crazies. I like the optimism though. Hopefully he makes this a real debate one day

A better poll:  Who can grow the better looking beard, Luck or Bortles?

Bortles wins in a landslide!!!

Back to football, the OP is having a case of premature evaluation.  It's a common condition affecting about 1 in 4 posters.  The only cure is to wait a couple years and the condition will resolve it self.  In the meantime, if you have obsessive thoughts thinking that the two are comparable for more than 4 hours, seek professional help immediately.

A better poll: who will go bald first and say the heck with it and shave their head, Luck or Bortles?

Eh, i think Bortles wins that one.

Poll:  Who has the hotter girlfriend?

Another win for Bortles!  In fact, does ole neck beard even have a girlfriend?  I've never seen one before.  She would be living proof of dating someone for their money.  You know that goofy [BAD WORD REMOVED] is low on the dateable list for women!!!

Edit:  Luck is a goofy bass terd.

mean, i know!

Probably the guy that can throw an accurate screen pass and isn't a "professional" QB who needs to "work on his fundamentals."

I agree, for the reasons he stated.  I've always called out Luck for how he gets baited into throwing INTs at the NFL level.  Kid thinks he knows the game as well as Manning, but he simply doesn't.  He over-thinks the game, gets too "cute", and has his lunch money stolen by NFL coordinators.  He still makes boneheaded picks a guy of his experience shouldn't be making, especially for one carrying so much hype.

So, yes.  I do think Bortles has the opportunity to be better.  If the writer is correct in that Luck isn't elite, I'd like to think Bortles can be.

The eye should be on the picks in the next couple years.  Bortles marginalizes them in a way Luck hasn't, and he has that chance.
Wow. just wow. I got nothing. Luck is better than Bortles in every way. This is just crazy. Luck, if not elite, is very very close.

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

OK so why all the turnovers? I don't recall Manning Brady and Rodgers having them since being called elite.

He's good not great at the moment. Nothing wrong with that

Reading this thread, and I had to stop here. I'll give you Stafford, but no way in hell is Luck better than Romo.

Don't talk that kind of common sense.  Not welcome in a luck slobber fest.

Again, it's obvious there are many who didn't bother to read (or perhaps simply don't understand) the poll.

Or maybe Blake hasn't shown anywhere near the ability to be better than Luck at this point. Everyone understands its 'who will be better in the future,' but that doesn't mean Blake should stand a chance. I would be thrilled if Blake managed to improve to Lucks rookie numbers next year, but that's a huge leap. This isn't a debate.

Luck not only looks better now, but he looked better his rookie year, much better. And he looks like he will only get better for the future also. Maybe Blake can start projecting upward next year, but anyone who says he will be better than Luck is not basing their opinion on Bortles rookie season at all, but pure homerism and butterflys.

Not sure why its hard to admit that Bortles might become a good QB, but he doesn't appear like he will be on Lucks level. He looks like he could become a poor-mans version of Luck or Big Ben, not better than them.

He can be improving and be overrated. Not sure what the issue is, in fact the fact he is improving shows he was overrated by a lot of people before.

Quote:Who do you think will be/is better than the other? Right now, obviously Luck is performing better but Bortles has shown us a few moments that show us he can be just as good as Luck. I now I might sound like a parrot, but I think Bortles just needs more time (offseason) to properly fix his mechanics, and we need an offensive line. Who do you guys think can be better?

UPDATE: Okay, so this has turned into a hate-fest. Sorry for posting my opinion which is clearly too stupid and embarrassing to be shown on the message board.

Oh good you already know then

ESPN and a lot of fans perceive him to be as good as Manning Brady Rodgers etc and have done since day one. You can be overrated without being a bad player...

Pro bowls he wasn't even voted into. David Garrard is a pro bowler too then!

Good awards...shall I list the top qbs to compare to?...

Passer rating Career:

Luck 86.6

Manning 97.5 (including much harder passing era. 107 in Denver)

Brady 95.9

Rodgers 106

Rothlisberger 93.9

Garrard 85.8

Gabbert 66.8

Brees 95.4

Rivers 95.7

You see why he is overrated while being a good player? He's not as good as the guys he's compared to

Guys, this is about who can be better. Instead of analyzing what awards Luck has 'won' or passer ratings, let's instead try to compare skill sets and (soon to be) coordinator differences.
