Point remains you don't have to get worse to get better.

Rebuilding by definition is to make signifigant changes or repairs. That is what they are doing. Keeping a 30-something year old linebacker doesn't fit into that equation.

It's week 3 and we just played possibly the best team in the league in our second cross-country game in a row. Everyone expected a blowout; it wasn't the result of Gus not doing his job.

Hey weren't you the guy that defending Gene Smith till the end? Well he's the reason we're in this position. Not Gus and Dave.

signing a 30 year old something LB to a long term deal isn't in the equation, keeping him around until you find an upgrade is. Poz ain't no spring chicken and neither is Hayes the journeyman that couldn't cut in Chicago we brought in to start.

Anyone catch that pick 6 by Daryl to seal the win for the Ravens? Funny you don't see Jaguar LB making plays like that this year? Geeeee

Try and keep up, we've covered this, yea I was a Gene guy until we drafter a punter in the 3rd round.

That said no one is denying Gene put us in a bad spot, the argument is are we getting any better?

Lol you see who Daryl is playing with in Bmore? Elite talent over there dude. I do wish we still had him but he would be getting shelled right along with the rest of our guys.

Poz wasn't a free agent like Daryl Smith and Geno Hayes just turned 26.

You don't find it funny that a team with all the "elite" talent saw it fit to start him but we couldn't find a way to use him on our rebuilding roster?

Geno Hayes is in his 6th year in the NFL that's no spring chicken, and I'd take Daryl Smith in his 10th year over Geno Hayes in his 6th do you disagree?

Well I was talking about the OP but okay. It's impossible to decide if we're getting any better 3 games into a complete rebuild. Everybody needs to calm down and give Gus and Dave a chance. You'll looking for improvement throughout the year. Then we'll probably get a QB next draft and get even better. The key is to look for improvement. Gene's team got worse throughout the years but the fanbase was in denial.

Quote:Please Daryl Smith was in Free Agency until the FINAL weeks of the off-season. Neither signed for crazy money, if the team wanted either of these two they could've been had.

Why is it so hard to admit Dave made his assessment that he could find better options, lets see if he did.

I won't admit to reading someone's mind, that's preposterous. There were reports that Smith and Dave had discussions, that's all I know. As for Cox, at some point you must admit that he was often injured and likely not deemed worthy of even the contract he got from the Chargers. Before you point out the injuries to Gratz and Ball, consider that Cox has a documented history.

There's a poster or two who need to chill before this team leads them to cardiac arrest.

This isn't the first losing season this team has or is going to endure in their existance. I think everyone knows that this team offensively is gonna suck eggs until we get a qb and some tackles.

I know the qb's suck on this team. I know the o-line can look like swiss cheese. My beef is with play calling. I don't care of the qb sucks too much to start passing it over 15 yards. Do it anyway.. Take the chance and try..

I think Fisch needs to use the same door as Gabbert and Henne.

I said safeties, you cite the secondary.

I said OT, you cite the OL.

I said DT, you cite the DL.

A position can be upgraded and the entire unit can still play poorly.

I'd say keep up, but I'm out for the night.

The team regressed every year under Gene. Dave, Gus, and co. inherited a garbage pile of a roster. Your claim that it's their responsibility because they retained these players is absolutely ridiculous. Just because Gene's busts are on the current roster doesn't mean they were given a stamp of approval by the current regime. There just isn't a whole ton of roster-worthy talent sitting around waiting to be picked up, apart from a few names in free agency that would've signed for a big chunk of change (which Gene did and it left us in the position we're in). In 2-3 years time (maybe sooner), the only players on this roster with any link to Gene will likely be Blackmon, Shorts, Monroe, Anger, and maybe Lowery. That's it. After several years of drafting and signing free agents, that's all Gene left us with.

Though, I too am disappointed with how things are going so far. I expected 5 wins. I expected an end to the blowouts. I overestimated the team. Now, all I expect is a brand new, shiny quarterback next spring. Gus and Dave are new at this too; mistakes by them are to be expected as well. It's going to take some time.

A 31 year old linebacker does not fit into the rebuild plans. Not that hard to understand.

You must not have read the entire conversation

Joeckel vs Bradfield/Whimper not an upgrade yet (potential but it's not there yet)

Cyprien vs Landry (about even at this point, wouldn't even need to address this issue if not for cutting the entire secondary)

Gratz/Blackmon vs Cox (again a position of need Dave created haven't seen anything suggesting we upgraded it yet)

Marks/Miller vs Knighton/Alualu (nope, not an upgrade)

Hayes vs Smith (lol at you suggesting this)

goodnight

Avoiding the question is fun, No one said you had to sign Daryl Smith to a long term contract, who would serve us better Hayes or Smith?
