Quote:The things you learn around here. Simply amazing. I know. One reason for that is many posters are crazy. Anyway, what do you think of the 49ers hiring their defensive line coach instead of Vic Fangio, who they refused to let the Redskins talk to? We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:I have no warnings and I'm arguably the worst poster here. LOL Probably not. Years ago you said I am your favorite. Quote:LOL Probably not. Years ago you said I am your favorite. Prove it. On both counts. I'm kidding, JW. Other than your name change from JW, I have no problems with you. Heck, you inspired my name change.
Quote:Prove it. On both counts. I remember that. You can still call me JW even though I am MJF now. Quote:That's an interesting trend, isn't it? When the Jaguars were in the market for a coach, they went against the grain by hiring a defensive minded guy in Bradley. Until reading your reply and looking up the new HCs in 2013, I didn't realize that Gus Bradley was the only coach from that crop that was primarily from the Defensive side of the ball. The Jaguars did indeed go against the grain. My take is from a year to year basis, the trends will change much more often than not. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the majority of new NFL HCs in 2016 are primarily from the Offensive Side of the ball. Going back to the 2013 crop, of the 8 HCs hired for that season, Cleveland, Chicago, and Buffalo no longer employ the HC they hired for 2013. The situations in places like New England, Green Bay, and Pittsburgh are much more the exception than the norm. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote: Of the remainder 3 HC openings, at this time it looks like at least 2 of them will be coaches that are primarily from the Defensive Side of the ball. The situation with Denver at this time is difficult to predict. The Broncos are scheduled to interview Teryl Austin on Friday, if he isn't hired by the Falcons by that time. They interviewed Adam Gase on Wednesday. An X factor is whether Gary Kubiak will decide to interview for the job, because of his close connection with John Elway and his overall time with the Broncos as a player and Assistant Coach. If the Falcons hire Teryl Austin, it's possible the Broncos will wait until they can speak to Dan Quinn.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the majority of new NFL HCs in 2016 are primarily from the offensive side of the ball. Now you get me wondering: Of all 32 coaches (after all vacancies are filled), are the majority offensive or defensive?
Quote:Of the remainder 3 HC openings, at this time it looks like at least 2 of them will be coaches that are primarily from the defensive side of the ball. What I am interested in is how willing the Falcons are to wait for the Seahawks to lose. If Teryl Austin blows them away at his second interview, will they offer a contract on the spot? The wait for Dan Quinn could be at least two weeks. Quote:What I am interested in is how willing the Falcons are to wait for the Seahawks to lose. If Teryl Austin blows them away at his second interview, will they offer a contract on the spot? The wait for Dan Quinn could be at least two weeks. These are key questions that only the Falcons brass can answer. There are many variables in the equation that have come to mind in recent days: including the Bears and Broncos situations, how long would Teryl Austin be willing to wait for a contract offer, putting together a coaching staff, and the possibility of another HC position opening. Quote:These are key questions that only the Falcons brass can answer. I think everybody interviewed Teryl Austin. FBT pointed out he satisfies the Rooney Rule, which did not result in any minority hires two years ago. So it would be good for the NFL's image if the Falcons hire Austin. So another question is could that factor into Atlanta's decision to go with him instead of wait for the Seahawks to lose since there are no other minority coaches getting interviews for the job? But I still think it's Dan Quinn's job to lose if they can interview him a second time. In Denver, it is Adam Gase's job to lose because Peyton Manning will be involved in the search and John Elway wants him to return for another season. A rumor is if Gase is not retained, Manning will retire. Elway, of course, left open the possibility of keeping Gase on as the offensive coordinator if not the head coach just to make sure Manning does not retire because of a coaching change. Because the job opened up late the Broncos probably are more willing to wait for Dan Quinn to be available than the Falcons, who have already interviewed all of their candidates. Do you have a link for any of that, especially the part about the job being "Gase's to lose" a couple days after he was fired?
Quote:Where do you come up with this stuff? Do you have a link for any of that, especially the part about the job being "Gase's to lose" a couple days after he was fired? Adam Gase still works for the Broncos. Except for my opinion he should be the favorite, I did not make up anything. All of these statements are copied directly from NFL.com: Quote:Elway will stay in touch with Manning, who will be "involved in the process" of finding a new head coach. Quote:Elway said that offensive coordinator Adam Gase and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio were both options to replace Fox, but neither coach has an interview scheduled with the team at this time. Elway has yet to contact any outside candidates, making it sound like the process will take time. Quote:The speculation starts with Adam Gase. The Broncos offensive coordinator has developed a strong relationship with Manning, who said after Sunday's divisional round loss to the Colts he was unsure whether he would continue his NFL career. |
