Question about Gabbert
|
Well.. Gabbert may not be so bad for the Bills. They're not far from NYC. And if you can just get the ghostbusters in there to get rid of the phantoms putting pressure on him, he might succeed.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

I think there's a lot of animosity on Blaine Gabbert from Jaguars fans, and rightfully so. However, I think its going overboard to the point that some even claim he showed zero potential. That's not true. Blaine showed plenty of potential in one regard: arm talent. There were quite a few throws that he's made in his career that only top QBs make in the NFL.
The problem is he didn't do it consistently. His pocket presence is terrible. I think he needs to be in a quick-read offense (spread maybe). For all intents and purposes, I think he was very coachable...to a fault. The talent is there. It's just a matter of whether any QB coach, OC, or system can harness it out of him. Off note also...with all the mess he had in Jacksonville around him (coaching, ownership changes, bad teams), other than fixing his footwork (which he did do from year 1 to year 2), he actually regressed from that point on. For all intents and purposes, and perhaps he never had the mental make-up to be a good QB anyway, but his situation in Jax ruined him. Quote:Other tools? I'm trying to think what else he has. Besides a decent throwing arm where some of his passes do look sweet, I'll can think of three tools... I don't know what other "tools" you are looking for. Blaine lacked a lot of the "feel" that you want out of your QB (its what made me really like Bridgewater coming in. His game doesn't always "wow" you, but he just shows great "feel" for the game). From a tangible standpoint, you pretty much listed everything that you'd want out of a pro QB: big, strong arm, quick release, hard worker, athletic, smart, no off-field issues.

He is also intelligent and had a good command of the offense. His lack of guts made everything else non-functional. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

Quote:I know Gabbert had a rough going in Jacksonville, but there's some thought among the Bills fans that he might be a QB we look at this coming season. The reason for this is our new OC Greg Roman worked with Gabbert in San Fran and apparently thinks highly of him.A lot of people have thought highly of Gabbert. Then he got on the field during games. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:Blaine showed plenty of potential in one regard: arm talent. There were quite a few throws that he's made in his If by plenty, you mean the 5 throws in 3 years, then yes, I'd agree with plenty. He probably had the same number of great throws in his career as an average QB in the league has in a single game. One of these years.............
Quote:He is also intelligent and had a good command of the offense. His lack of guts made everything else non-functional. lol never once in his career did he show a "good command of the offense."
Quote:lol never once in his career did he show a "good command of the offense." You're wrong, it clearly showed in practice where guts don't matter thanks to that red jersey. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

Quote:You're wrong, it clearly showed in practice where guts don't matter thanks to that red jersey.I saw Gabbert in practice a bunch of times. Hate to break it to you. He wasn't all that impressive. From a tangible standpoint, you pretty much listed everything that you'd want out of a pro QB: big, strong arm, quick release, hard worker, athletic, smart, no off-field issues. His athleticism is not really very good. He doesn't move laterally very well at all. So that attribute should be crossed off the list of things he's so great at. Smart? Ok, he's great at math tests. That has nothing to do with football. He clearly struggled at reading defenses. Literally the only thing that was above average on him was arm strength, which is incredibly overrated. It's pointless if you suck at everything else.
For a town now known to be "Kelly Tough" I really don't think you'll be impressed with Gooey Gabbert.

Quote:Perhaps no quarterback in the history of the sport has more extenuating circumstances than Gabbert. He went from third on the depth chart to starter with no warning (and those who whine about how he's the worst QB the team has ever had really need to reacquaint themselves with the play of Luke McCown before Gabbert started). He effectively played without an offensive line. He had a new offensive system at every opportunity, and some of the training he was given either gave him or reinforced in him terrible habits. His receivers couldn't catch a ball if you nailed it to their hands, and (partly as a result) the running game was pretty much non-existent.You couldn't step into a worse situation, and it didn't improve during his tenure.Mix that with the fact that he does, indeed, seem to have had a natural flair for being terrible, and you have the full story.Ignore the fools who claim he was a 'preseason warrior'. Gabbert was no better in the preseason than the regular season - he won and kept his starting position by having a truly special set of other quarterbacks on the team with him. Hey we understand that Gabbert is your cousin, you just didn't need to explain it through a wall of text.

Top 5 QB? Absolute ludicrous. ![]()
Thanks for the insight everyone. From the sounds of it, we already have him on our roster, but goes by the name EJ Manuel now.

Quote:I know Gabbert had a rough going in Jacksonville, but there's some thought among the Bills fans that he might be a QB we look at this coming season. The reason for this is our new OC Greg Roman worked with Gabbert in San Fran and apparently thinks highly of him. He perceives pressure that isn't there, he has no pocket awareness or poise, he doesn't climb or sidestep in the pocket and worst of all, he looks at the rush instead of keeping his eyes downfield. It's a shame because Blaine has all of the physical tools to succeed, super athletic kid with a strong arm/quick release, he's also incredibly bright. Unfortunately, his pocket issues are simply too much to overcome. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Thanks for the insight everyone. From the sounds of it, we already have him on our roster, but goes by the name EJ Manuel now. I would take EJ over Gabbert everyday of the week and twice on Sunday, and YES, I have seen him play.
I survived the Gus Bradley Error.
Quote:I just don't see how someone can type this with a straight face? Top 5 QB? Absolute ludicrous.Actually the stats that showed how much time QBS had to throw the ball he was in the top 3 and that was what all the analytics where about him being good and why they kept him. But dont let facts/stats get in the way of saying how bad he was. He has terrible pocket awarness and is scared of getting hit. Nothing he does that is good will compensate for that.
Here's the deal BillsFan1970. When Gabbert was in Jacksonville, he had long glistening golden locks and sparkly eyes. He ended up sleeping with every poster's significant other, thus the passionate hatred. I think some of the posters here even fell for his charm, and as usual, no call back from Blaine the next day.
So my advice to you if the Bills sign him is to hide you girlfriends, hide your wives and never watch football again! |
