2015 Free Agents - Who Do You Want?
|
Just a draft note...
For the Bucs, Mike Williams was a 4th round draft pick in 2010. Arrelious Benn was their 2nd round pick in the same draft. Dekoda Watson, our free agent bust from last year, was their 7th round selection from the same draft. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I believe that the Jags may end up signing either Morgan or Sheard to strengthen their DE rotation.
With him being a FA, he can sign at any time correct?

How about FS Marcus Gilchrist from San Diego if McCourty is tagged?

I sense from some in the Jax media that Julius Thomas is the favored TE that the Jags hope to sign in Free Agency, sort of the Big Splash signing if you will.
So if Julius Thomas does not block, how is he that much different than a Big Slot WR? Is it possible for the Jags to utilize Randall Cobb and Julius Thomas on the field at the same time? Should the Jags sign both and if so how would the Jags use them together? Hard to imagine that Julius Thomas turned down 8 Million per year from Denver. Kind of scary to think of paying him $10 Million per year.

Same with Thomas. Thomas can line up on the outside against an LB or safety. He's like Jimmy Graham in that way. I'd be worried about a coordinator that couldn't make it work.

I have been working this Julius Thomas thing over and over in my head and it was not until I listened to Sal Palantonio of ESPN that I finally got it.
The Jags will want to sign Julius Thomas for a couple of reasons. One more than half his catches result in 1st downs and that is important in keeping drives alive. The second is the most important reason to sign Julius Thomas and pay him an outrageous amount of money. He catches Touchdowns. He caught 12 TDs each of the past two years. Jordan Cameron caught 2 TDs last season and 7 the year he had the 80 catch season. The Jags must march down the field and when they get into the Red Zone, they must score Touchdowns. If Julius Thomas can consistently catch 8 to 10 TD per year for the Jags then he will be worth the 10 Mil the Jags have to pay him. Scoring Touchdowns is what the game is all about and those that score the TDs are the most valuable players and are paid accordingly. So while the Broncos say they want Julius Thomas back, it looks more and more like Julius Thomas will hit Free Agency and if he does, then the Jags must make every effort to sign the Touchdown Maker. .... In a similar vein, many people are down on Mike Wallace of the Dolphins. He is scheduled to make 10 Mil next season, but here is the thing, he scored 10 Touchdowns for the Dolphins even though his main attribute is his deep speed. I believe the Jags could get Mike Wallace in a trade for a 7th Rd pick just to relieve the Dolphins of the cost of this salary. I advocate making such a trade because the Jags need a consistent Deep Threat and reportedly Mike Wallace is the fastest WR in the NFL. If Wallace does well then the Jags could consider keeping him after the first year, or they could cut him with little investment in him other than his 2015 salary. Hopefully by then the Jags young WRs will be ready to take over. These are my thoughts. What are yours?
Stigma, I am with you on Julius Thomas. We need players that score touchdowns. How about targeting Torrey Smith? He scored 11 touchdowns last year and would probably be a little cheaper than Mike Wallace.
I think Miami and Wallace will mend fences, and he'll play for the Phins in 2015. For the Phins, this year in his 5 year signed contract is actually the least expensive year of the deal. For Wallace, Tannehill is getting better, and there will always be a second receiver such as Landry that will catch their fair number of balls. Given Tannehill's lack of long ball prowess, Wallace has had to retool his game. Wallace is a better all-around receiver now then when he was largely a one-trick "go deep" pony leaving Pittsburgh.
I would love the Jags to pick him up if available. But, again, I think the Phins will find a way to make him happy and get his head back into their program.
Personally, I'd rather bring in a vet TE other than JT (who isn't going to command a huge pay day) and draft O'Leary.

My only thoughts about Mike Wallace is that the Jags might be able to secure him through a trade which would help the Dolphins Cap situation and help the Jags because they need only RENT Mike Wallace for a year at his 10 Mil salary and then decide if they wish to move on since they have no signing bonus money involved
If the Jags were to go after any other WR then they would have to pay out signing bonus money and that would signify a commitment on the part of the Jags to that player. The Jags have a lot of young WRs and a couple could end up being major contributors. Trading for Mike Wallace would serve as providing a deep threat for Bortles and to take the top of the defense for the short passing game which would be all about Julius Thomas. The Jags are probably going to spend money on a WR, so the question I have is, "Is it better to RENT or to BUY?"
If julius wasnt asking for upwards of 8 million Id be okay with it but hes not worth that much. Hes one dimensional, has repeated ankle injury, and is only focused on himself and the money.
Is it totally crazy to think at this time that the Jags might just try to pull off signing both Julius Thomas and Randall Cobb?
I still think they will go after Jerry Hughes at Leo-DE and Joe Barksdale - ORT of Rams, but the two Offensive Guys. WOW talk about stepping up to the plate. I really think this is going to happen.
Anyone have thoughts/impressions on Jeremy Maclin, the WR from Philadelphia? ESPN Sal mentioned that he would be a good fit here, but I haven't watched him play a whole lot.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Pretty damn dynamic if you ask me. Quote:I believe that the Jags may end up signing either Morgan or Sheard to strengthen their DE rotation.I think this will be the way the front office goes. Branch may be traded on draft day if this happens Quote:Is it totally crazy to think at this time that the Jags might just try to pull off signing both Julius Thomas and Randall Cobb? Whatever we do, sounds like they plan on spreading the FA money around wisely for key needs, and not going overboard on one single area. https://twitter.com/ryanohalloran/status...3739454465
