IIRC the impression I got from twitter was none of the ILBs impressed.  Ditto the OLBs that aren't the top pass rushing prospects.

 

So, it's really a bad year for 4-3 teams looking for RDEs and OLBs (or even MLBs.)

i honestly just started giving a crap about the draft a week ago so i haven't gotten too much into it. where is this draft strong this year??? i heard FA is supposed   to be deeper than its been in a while, but i haven't heard a whole lot about this draft class as far strength is concerned.

I double-checked the information to make sure I was reading this correctly because the 40 yard dash, vertical jump, and broad jump are drills that require using groin muscles. How in the world is this possible?

TCU LB Paul Dawson clocked a 4.93 forty-yard dash at the NFL Combine.


Dawson was a tackle machine on the Horned Frogs' defense, but was exposed as a sub-par athlete in Indianapolis. At an already smallish 6-foot, 235, Dawson managed a broad jump of 9-foot-1 with a 28-inch vertical. The measurables may drop Dawson from a prospect considered amongst the top 50 into the mid to late rounds. This Combine is going to cost Dawson a lot of money.

This could be a case of ignoring what happened in underwear workouts and trusting the game tape. If Dawson falls because of his performance I will be all over him in the mid rounds.

Florida DE Dante Fowler clocked a 4.60 forty-yard dash at the NFL Combine.


The 6-foot-3, 261-pound pass rusher was less impressive in other drills, managing a 32 1/2-inch vertical and 9-foot-4 broad jump. NFL Films' Greg Cosell has likened Fowler to Clay Matthews as a prospect who can become a much better pro player than he was a collegiate. Fowler won't turn 21 until August.

I really can't advocate any other positions.  They are either top heavy, or the opposite (thin at the top), or lack overall depth.  I may be overlooking something because IMO nothing else stands out much.

 

**EDIT** I'd add to that 3-4 OLB pass rusher, but that's scheme specific and not a universal position every team could draft and make work.

Nebraska DE/OLB Randy Gregory ran a forty time of 4.64 at the NFL Scouting Combine.


Although Gregory is on the light side for an edge rusher at 6-foot-5, 235, there is little doubt about his functional athleticism. His strong forty time, 36 1/2-inch vertical, and 10-foot-5 broad jump all translate to the field. Long and lean, Gregory figures to draw Jason Taylor and perhaps some Leonard Little comparisons during the post-Combine draft process.

The biggest knock on Gregory is his weight. He can't play defensive end at 235.

Amazing how the draft works. Too many people to like, few to pick. I know the other day many were big on the Jake Fisher in R2 train, now today it is the Benardrick McKinney R2 train. Hard to balance it.

Jake Fisher is only appealing to people who gave up on Luke Joeckel too early. I only want a pure right tackle because when we moved a left tackle to the right side, it was obvious  he did not belong there. I will jump on the Fisher train if we trade or cut Joeckel.

Yes, WR and RB are deep throughout.

 

DL/Edge OLB are deep in the first 2 rounds.

 

CB doesn't have any studs and isn't top heavy, but I think there's a good number of solid depth in the mid rounds there.

 

I think we'll see a good run on G and OT in the late first/early-mid 2nd this year.

You are on your own train. I'm saying a lot of people were big on drafting Fisher in the 2nd round, RT, LT nobody cares. He fits the scheme and has the needed traits and just because Joeckel didn't rule at RT doesn't mean Fisher couldn't.

good stuff... so i'm guessing we address o-line in fa. I did watch a little of the combine and thought Duke Johnson looked decent for a 3rd-ish round pick. Like i said, i haven't put to much thought into the draft yet, but i have a gut feeling we take an rb early... not 1st round early, but 2nd or 3rd.
