Per rotoworld:

McPhee is a very interesting player. A swiss army knife type guy.

I think we'll get one of McPhee, Worilds, or Graham. Any of them would make me very very happy.

Quote:Why is that? Because nobody wants to play in Jacksonville?

Please explain.

There could be any number of reasons why a FA would not want to play here.

These are young, wealthy guys on the market.  Lots of them still like to enjoy a good nightlife and may perceive Jacksonville as not having one.

Some may want longer term stability and feel they won't get it in Jacksonville.  They could sign with Jacksonville because they fit in the current schemes, but if the team does not win enough next season, the coaches and schemes could be replaced, and they may no longer fit them.

For that matter, some may not be scheme fits here now.

Unfortunately, some may view Jacksonville as Khalif Barnes once did.

Some may not see the endorsement/accolade opportunities here.

Some may want to play on a more experienced & talented team.

There are any number of reasons guys wouldn't want to play here.

You could say the same thing about any team/city. The number one priority is money.

Maybe-maybe not.

With a coach that was newly hired, the reasonable assumption is the coach will be there for the foreseeable future.

Most places have a larger media profile/footprint than Jacksonville.

If money is the number one priority, it doesn't mean it's the only factor driving the decision.

I'd rather overpay for talent that's going to make this team better, than underpay for crap..

Doesn't Devin McCourty make it to FA with the Pats trying to resign Revis and not exactly being well off cap wise?

He's my number 1 target if I'm Caldwell, with Bryan Bulaga, Julius Thomas and Brian Orakpo right behind him, in that order. I don't think it's even that unreasonable.

Orakpo is your 4th highest target? Ouch. He can only survive 8 games per season. No thanks.

One way to OVERPAY a Free Agent and not go overboard on his annual salary is to guarantee more money upfront, perhaps by making the first year a bigger contract than subsequent years.

Khan has the money to write the checks.

The Jags have the salary cap to take large cap hits on a player.

If you give a player a large signing bonus then you are giving him the ultimate security because you pay him upfront.

So the Jags may not have to pay 120% to 130% in terms of the average annual contract amount, rather they just need to pay more guaranteed money in the first year like a signing bonus.

Thanks for the info.

This news is something that was highly anticipated and is something I factored in when expressing in another thread why I believe the Giants will use the Franchise Tag on JPP,  if necessary.

At a much lower price,  Mathias Kiwanuka should be able to help a team as a rotation DE if he can stay relatively healthy.   Another benefit is his experience at OLB in a 4-3 Defense,  which would provide depth and competition.

The Baltimore Ravens cut RS-WR Jacoby Jones today.   Jones' big play ability,  especially on Returns,  jumps out immediately.

Jacoby Jones would seem to make a great amount of sense for a team like the Jaguars.  The Jaguars can afford to give him a somewhat better contract than most teams can and he would be an upgrade on Returns.   Anything Jones provides at WR is a bonus.

Mason Foster could be an intriguing option as Poz's eventual replacement. He was an odd fit in Lovie's cover two scheme this year but has played well in his previous years. And he's only 25. Its rumored that the Falcons may show interest so he should fit well in Bradley's scheme.

Jones would demand a large contract for someone who's essentially a role player and special teamer. If we're going to spend that kind of money on a return man, I'd rather see it go to Ted Ginn.

Jason Worilds just became an option:

Quote:Steelers to let Jason Worilds hit the market

Jason Worilds | PIT

(February 25, 2015 10:56 PM EST)

A league source confirmed to ESPN Steelers reporter Scott Brown that the team plans to let free agent OLB Jason Worilds hit the market.

Worilds has 15.5 sacks over the last two seasons, but the Steelers will let the open market establish his value. As a 27-year-old pass rusher, Worilds' market should be strong despite the fact that he wasn't seen as a core defender in Pittsburgh. Disappointing 2013 first-round pick Jarvis Jones is currently the Steelers' only outside linebacker signed for 2015.

Could be brought in as an OTTO LB.
