***The official NFL combine thread***

Quote:Justin Cox - 38" Vertical, 10'9" Broad

It is not just the 40 guys.

The Combine is designed to uncover the potential of an athlete.

So that sounds like a no on the game tape.

Look man I love big fast explosive DBs as much as anyone but there's more to the game than raw combine numbers.

Quote:So is Justin Cox a top of Rd 4 selection?

4.8 guys like Chris Hackett are not going to cut it.

Hackett can't crack it ?

40 time is only valuable when you're playing a bad team like the Jaguars... See also "What Dez Bryant did to the Jags in 2014."

Cox has good measurables but was also suspended because he got into some legal trouble he also didn't do that good in the change of direction drills

"Didn't do that good." As in tasted the dirt during the gauntlet.

I didn't catch the gauntlet but he was noticeably stiff in the other DB drills

Does it though? What was Shermans 40? Didn't Haden run a really bad 40 at the combine?

Give me game tape over combine results every time.

Sure it does, and if a guy already has great game tape, Combine results can (and should) raise him by a round.

Blowing a second-round pick on a guy whose game tape pegs him in seven purely because he runs fast and jumps high is called "Raider drafting" for a reason.

It really doesn't.

See Philip Buchanon, Fabian Washington, Aaron Ross.

A guy running a fast 40 isn't going to shoot up 5 rounds just based on that alone.

IMO Adrian Amos is a guy who could go in the mid rounds but outplay his draft slot.

He has good range and experience playing CB and finished his college career out at FS. He can play centerfield, blitz from the safety or nickel spot and drop down in man coverage as well.

Certainly the domestic violence charge against Justin Cox curbed my enthusiasm for him a bit.

Nobody is saying we should base our picks on a drill at the combine. It is important to have fast players in the secondary because they play against very fast wide receivers and tight ends, so it would be stupid to completely disregard the 40 yard dash times.

Joe Haden's 40 was 4.6 according to another poster in this thread. When you look at Chris Hackett's 4.8, that looks pretty good for a defensive back. I don't know about Richard Sherman, but he probably ran slower than expected if his time was bad.

The 40 is probably 90% coming out of your stance. You could be Chris Johnson and run a bad 40 if you can't come out of your stance correctly.

With the exceptions of players that also competed in track ( which all usually run good anyway) I doubt these guys have spent much time in a sprinter stance.

The 40 means little.

Not true. If it was mostly about that, they would only do the 10-yard split. Why do you think they run 40 yards?

True. Do you look up anything before you talk?

Here's a lil quote for you

Here are some websites for you how to improve your 40 yard dash time (SPOILER ALERT, they all have to do with coming out of your stance)

You have no idea what you are talking about.

OMG a world record was probably broken today! Congratulations Byron Jones for at least setting a new NFL combine broad jump record.
