Browns sign McCown
|
Quote:15 million? While initially laughing, I looked up the salaries of starting QBs. It appears they are basically paying him bad starter money if I can put it like that. The best backups are getting between 3.5-4.8 million. So, it isn't too bad if you consider he will be starting. I understand where you are coming from. Yet, considering Josh McCown's age, the pounding that he took in Tampa this past season, and the Browns having far from a stellar array of Offensive Skill players, it's hard to envision McCown being more than a bridge to the next Browns QB of the future. So you say there is a chance my brother could play for them? :woot: Also, per Schefter twitter: Quote:Josh McCown deal with Browns: 3 years/$14M with upsides to $20M. $6.25M is Fully Guaranteed. Year 1 is $5.25M Fully Guaranteed. It's basically a 1 year deal. I think they'd be better to keep Hoyer, but he probably wanted to much guaranteed money.
Why they didn't just keep Hoyer and stack him with talent this year, such as white or parker..
Quote:Why they didn't just keep Hoyer and stack him with talent this year, such as white or parker.. Because Hoyer wants a long term deal and McCown is just a one year bridge to A. see if Johnny Highball is going to work out or B. they have to draft another guy. If it's A then McCown is a good guy to act as backup/coach/babysitter, if it's B then he can start until the draftee is ready to go. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
Quote:Maybe they can work some of that Kevin Costner magic, huh? The Browns are much closer to Kevin Hart magic the Kevin Costner magic.

I just don't see any way that Johnny Highball works out for them, none. Unfortunately for Browns fans, it could take a while before Browns management figures that out. I know it's tough finding a QB to lead your team, but a 35 yr old QB who went 1-10 as a starter last year? Yikes!!!!! Browns fans can't be happy, but when was the last time they were happy?

I haven't paid much attention to the QBs available in FA, but is there a better option? Hoyer and McCown are the same guy. To me, the best of the bad options are to trade for a young backup on a roster, Glennon for example. You could also try trading for a Bradford if the price is right. Historically though, the only way to find that franchise guy is to draft him.
