The deal is worth a reported five years and $47.5 million. At least one team (believed to be the Jacksonville Jaguars) offered more.

Can't say the Jaguars didn't try to get him.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

1010xl just said via Ian Rapaport how McCourty was surprised about how much the Jaguars wanted him.

Sounds like he went hard for him but he'd rather play for the Pats for less money. Can't do much about that, huge shame though, I feel like we need to address that position somehow either through a trade, another free agent or a high draft pick.

Yeah, nothing we could really do.  You can only offer him so much.  It sounds like he really wanted to stay in New England, which I can understand.  With income taxes too, he'd have made a couple more million here a year, but oh well.

This isnt a knock on Caldwell if he offered more than the Patriots did.

Money isnt everything to some of these players and winning does play a certain factor.

McCourty just said on Mike and Mike that he knows in NE he has a chance to win a SuperBowl every year which is why he chose to stay there.

Of course. he knows the league owns the team and they can cheat their way to a title every year.

No matter how strong the "Gus Juice" is, its going to be a difficult task to pry a player from an annual Super Bowl contender.

A lot more goes into staying or leaving than just money.

Well if the rumours are correct the Jags are about to sign 2 of the top 3 FA's available:

Some players prefer to stay where they are, they know they play well in that system and they can win in that system. JJ Watt could have probably waited out his contract and signed elsewhere for more for example. Randall Cobb also turned down higher offers to stay in GB.

But aren't we prying a star TE from an annual SB contender?

Maybe the whole "rule" where teams aren't allowed to contact players, only their agents got in the way.

Just spitballing here.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

As I stated, its a difficult task. Batting .500 isn't bad at all.

This should really make it clear, Gus has never and never will make a difference in landing a difference making player. Guys come to Jacksonville if it's for money, is a good thing we have so much cap space.

Pretty amazing in this day and age in the greedy NFL when you have the most money to spend out of anybody and still don't land the best free agents.
