Quote:If you can draft a Kevin Williams, you should draft him, no matter who you already have at DT.
Not if you have a Demarcus Ware in the draft. But i just dont see Leonard Williams as a Kevin Williams either.

I agree that at the top of the draft, we should draft the best player who can get on the field for us.

(That would exempt a QB, because we can only play one of those.)

I would've said Von Miller (Beasley's comp), but I agree with the sentiment.

Draft the best available player which would be Leonard Williams.

Is he really, though?   There is a consensus among the pundits that he's the best player in the draft, but scouts and GMs don't talk, so we don't really know if they think so, too.   I have been assuming he's the best player in the draft, because I keep reading that he's the best player in the draft, but who decided that, anyway?

Dave has said that edge rusher is a top 3 most important position on the team. Hes not gonna take Williams when the team is already strong on the inside, when he has his choice of the top edge rushers in a draft thats strong at that position.

The whole BPA is hilarious to me. If Williams is a 7.9 and Beasley is a 7.7 just for example, and you have a much greater need at LEO, the team improves more by taking Beasley. Because now you are strong at two spots instead of still having a huge weakness.

The local and .com guys are all over Williams jock so I get why people on here are so crazy for Williams. The rest of the world doesn't have nearly the same consensus, however. It's roughly 50/50 with the major media guys, and the up and coming draftniks are almost all in the Beasley as best non-QB camp. Just depends where you get your sourcing from IMO.

Dave has said a dozen times he is a needs drafter early and a value drafter late anyway. If he has Williams and a LEO graded even remotely similarly I expect the pick will be the pass rusher.

except that i know myself and plenty of other people were talking up williams long before the media was all about him.

if williams is there and we dont trade out, id bet money he is the pick.

Im stunned people would pass on Leonard Williams for Gregory or Fowler.....STUNNED. Literally is the best prospect in this class and can play all over the line. If he's there at 3, you don't walk you run to the podium. And Wiinston is a good NFL prospect and will be a good pro, people love to pick on him because of his immaturity but the guy has all the tools to be a hell of a pro.

I don't see many people saying that with Fowler and none with Gregory (at least not since his issues)...it's Beasley that is > Williams.

I just don't get it.....i mean, i feel like people take Alfie's word as gospel or something. He knows just as much as you or I do. Beasley, while a good prospect, is no sure fire selection like Leonard Williams is. If Williams makes it to 3, he's gotta be the pick. I would agree maybe that Beasley may be a better LEO than Fowler, but who knows. I think Gregory, Fowler, Beasley, Ray all are possibilities as a LEO. None of them are the sure fire prospect though and all have their flaws. If you look at this draft. Theres three guys in my eyes that are a class above everyone else. Winston, Williams and Cooper. If we don't trade down, id like us to seriously consider one of either Leonard Williams or Amari Cooper.

Yeah, no one liked Beasley until Alfie said so. Especially not the multitudes that had him as a top 5 pick last year until he surprisingly returned to school.

Beasley was never shear fire prospect. Sure, he's going top 10 and probably would of been top 10 last year, but he never was the prospect Leonard Williams is, and most mocks don't even have him going top 5 this year.

I like Beasley but not for the LEO. He just is to light. The LEO position is more about being ferocious and having the ability to wreak havoc in the back field. I think of players like Suggs, Mathews, or Aldon Smith. Beasley is more of a speed rusher. He seems to fit more of a traditional 3-4 defense. He fits more of the Wake or Mathis type to me anyway. Fowler or Ray are more of the types of players they are looking for to play the LEO spot.

Now I would only take Fowler at the 3 spot. Ray would be the pick if we dropped back to 10-14.

to be fair it was that vaunted spider chart that really got kyjaggy's pants wet.

Maybe I'm just going by my gut but just think it would be a huge mistake to pass up either Williams or Cooper if we don't trade back. I like the idea of Fowler, but again, i don't think he's the prospect Williams is.
