FB Bradie Ewing cut, no fullbacks on roster now

Quote:Look at the recent Super Bowl winners. That doesn't mean they have traditional FBs. Those days are long gone. Who was NE's traditional FB? They didn't have one. I agree that you need players who can play FB but that doesn't mean you need someone who is just a FB. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:That doesn't mean they have traditional FBs. Those days are long gone. I said nothing about needing a FB. My comment was about running the football. And I agree with you about not necessarily needing a fullback. Teams that go without them tend to use "move" TEs, jumbo backs, and/or linemen in certain packages for that role.

Funny... When it was suggested last season that Toby could move to FB we got comments like "this isn't Madden" and "he's not a Fullback".
Seems to be a lot more possible now. Quote:Funny... When it was suggested last season that Toby could move to FB we got comments like "this isn't Madden" and "he's not a Fullback".I still kinda' doubt we see him in a traditional fullback role very much, if at all. Lining up at H-back and providing an additional blocker in the backfield and serving as an additional receiving possibility is quite different from the lead-blocking role that Greg Jones played in Jax. Teams that have used the H-Back in recent years have even used them with a traditional FB on the field at the same time. I like this article that shows some well-conceived fairly-recent H-Back applications in the NFL: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/strateg...tight-ends Some passing possibilities if Toby is an H-Back: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/strateg...ssing-game We show less advertisements to registered users. We know he can catch the ball, and he can block. He is also (occasionally) good for a tough 2-3 carry. I could see him used in combination with DRob as we did a few times last season. At least this 'hybrid' idea gives the team the option to try to get some worth out of the investment in him. If he can't or won't do this role, I could see him getting cut, especially if we pick up a promising RB in the draft. I suspect a lot of other teams might have already parted ways with Toby by now after such a miserable first season like he had here. It will be interesting to see if he can make it this season without getting injured; if he can't, I doubt he will be here next year.

Quote:And to think that for a few years, Del Rio had three on the active roster. wow, that just makes you want to ![]() Quote:What about Tim Tebow for FB? :thumbsup:Why'd you have to go there? Quote:Yup, I got blasted for mentioning this. But its a reality now. It is?
Gentlemen, things have changed.
1) Gerhart is now a fullback. 2) The Jaguars are about to have Todd Gurley, Jay Ajayi, Cameron Artis Payne, or David Johnson. One of those four. Maybe even David Cobb. Seems almost definite they'll draft somebody at RB to complement DRob and maybe even shoulder more carries since DRob is skinny.
Where are people getting that Gerhart is a FB? Did I miss something? I'm sure Dave will sign an UDFA to be the lead blocking FB and Gerhart will see time there sparingly.

I really don't see that happening and think the assumptions are very permature. Quote:Where are people getting that Gerhart is a FB? Did I miss something? It was speculation from Ian Rapoport. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000482707/article/toby-gerhart-to-see-snaps-at-fullback-for-jaguars

Quote:It was speculation from Ian Rapoport.Actually it was speculation from Patra. Rappaport said H-Back. Patra tossed in the fullback stuff. Without any warrant other than there currently not being one on the roster. Quote:Actually it was speculation from Patra. Rappaport said H-Back. Patra tossed in the fullback stuff. Didn't realize Rappaport tweeted that second tweet on the topic. I assumed the article referenced this Rappaport tweet:

I don't see it happening. Not as a traditional FB. Quote:An interesting sidebar here. At the North Dakota State Pro Day, the Jags worked out Kyle Emanuel who is a DE/Otto LB candidate. The interesting thing was the Jags worked him out as a Fullback. That's a head scratcher. You have the link for that?
