The best case you can make for drafting two running backs is 1998, when Fred was taken in the first and Tavian Banks in the fourth. Right up until Banks' knee exploded, that was looking like a stroke of genius. If we were to draft a running back in, say, the third round (or second if Gurley somehow falls) and fill out the roster elsewhere pretty satisfactorily, we could do a lot worse than Akeem Hunt or Malcolm Brown in the sixth round.

 

It's just a shame Denard is practically worthless as a blocker. Dude reminds me of Deji Karim.

If we didn't have so many other areas to address, I could see something like Ajayi in the 2nd and someone like Josh Robinson in the 6th or 7th. Pick the considered stud RB, as well as an undervalued RB that could be a steal. At least 1 of them should turn out to be good.

Banks had his knee exploded for him. I believe it was an Atlanta DB hit on what I thought was a pretty cheap shot. It was a shame because he really had some star potential as a Darren Sproles type of role player.


Sorry. I know that wasn't the subject of this thread. But that play still ticks me off to this day.


Edit: Looked it up after I got back in from lunch. Ray Buchanan hit him directly on the knee after he had gone out of bounds....in a game that the Jaguars were winning 30-7.

No, same here. Taylor/Banks could have been a great 1-2 punch for the Jags for years to come. No question in my mind that Tavian Banks was an infinitely better player in 1999 than Stacey Mack was in 2001.

Both positions are loaded in this draft.  But if we find our WR1 with pick 3, it's likely we'd find a KR/PR/slot later as well.

 

I think we'd be better off doing that than picking up 2 RBs.  One stud RB added to what we have in the stable should work fine.

I hear ya sqawkin' big chicken. Draft another running back in the 7th round to compete with Storm for the final spot. Not a big need. Offensive line depth is far more important for the running game.

 

I'd personally like to see a maximum of three offensive players -- give Blake a deep threat and line depth -- with the majority of the picks used to shore up the defense.

We did that last year. You're a year behind, that's why it'll be two RBs this year.
