Jags might have a chance at Williams if Browns come up and get Mariotta

Quote:Pat Kirwan has floated the idea that the Jags should trade up to 1 with the Bucs to ensure they get Williams. Meanwhile the Bucs don't really lose anything unless they are 100% sold on Jameis and he goes at 2 to whomever. I don't get the feeling the Bucs are 100% sold on Jameis though. If Caldwell did that I'd probably be on suicide watch.

I'd say drunk, but that would be an insult to drunk people. Did he recently inhale drain cleaner and receive brain damage? Alternately, did he get possessed by a guy who looks a lot like Daniel Roebuck?
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
Even if no QB went in the top 2 and we couldn't trade down, we'd still have one of Williams/Fowler/Cooper. That trading up idea is ridiculous.

If the Jags have Williams as the clear cut best prospect in the draft and assuming they are right about it, what's the problem with the idea of making sure you get your guy? Especially if you think Tennessee might take him? I'm generally of the mindset of sit and let the draft come to you, but there are scenarios where you could and should deviate from that mindset. Hypothetically having a guy with a pre-draft grade of say 98 out of 100 and the next best prospect grades out at say a 90, it might be worth the trade up depending on the price of course. It sounds like an idea only Gene Smith could come up with.
Unless the plan is to trade up with the Buccs, and then betray them and trade the #1 pick to Cleveland for #12, #19, their 2nd round pick, and their 1st and 2nd pick next year and a 1st in 2017.

I'm in agreement that we are in a really wonderful position. Williams, trade down, or Cooper. We will get one of those three options. I hope those are the three options Dave is considering. Personally, I would love a trade down, but no further than #8. That would assure us of a premium player, and then we could use our extra picks to get back up in the first round and get either Gurley or Gordon.

Seems like a great way to throw away value to me. Either Williams is there for us, or one of the QBs are and we should have nice trade options. I'm fine with either of those scenarios. Quote:Maybe, but why would a team pay for the number 3 pick when they can pay less for the number 4 pick? The Raiders don't seem like a real threat to draft a QB. The threats start at picks 5 and 6. the pay the price for number 3 instead of 4 because they dont know if someone else is looking to move up to get him. Lets say the browns want him and make a deal with the raiders for number 4 only to have say the jets go to 3 to get him. You call all 4 at the top and have tenative deals in place and go with what you think gets him.
I think if Williams is as highly rated as some of these guys seem to think then he has to be the pick. We'd be coming away with the best player in the draft.
And I do like Cooper but if Williams is the guy I'd be happy.

Yes, let's just throw away picks...... That's the most asinine idea I've seen this year.... The only movement I'd like to see from us is backwards (not too far back though) and pick up more picks for ammunition in day 2 or 3. GO JAGS!!
Let's Get Em!!!! Go Jags!
I get that there are some strong emotional opinions against trading up and that probably has something to do with our history of trading up for busts, but compensation to move from 3 to 1 wasn't even discussed. Are those against the idea saying that under no circumstances would they be for it? What if all it took was this year's 3rd rounder? There's value in guaranteeing that you get your guy even if there is a chance he falls to us at 3 anyway. The question is what is the price for that guarantee? If the price was only this year's 3rd rounder I'd give strong consideration to pulling the trigger. Anything more and it might be too hard of a pill to swallow, any thing less and I'd do it without hesitation.
I actually think there's a better than 50-50 chance that Williams is there for us at 3 and I think he should be the pick if the draft plays out that way. I wouldn't have a problem with a trade up either though as long as the compensation wasn't too much and it may not have to be if the Bucs are still reasonably assured that they're getting the guy they wanted all along anyway. Considering that a draft day trade involving the number 1 overall pick is so rare, I think the Bucs would be willing to take less value than what the draft pick value chart would normally call for.
Quote:I think the Jags are sitting pretty for trade offers. I sure hope so, it's been a very long time since the Jags were sitting pretty for anything.
I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

Either Leonard Williams is there, or he isn't and we have a good opportunity to trade down or draft Amari Cooper or even Dante Fowler Jr.

To me though, I don't value him that high to move to #1 pick to take him. But I haven't studied him like the team has, so it's definitely possible. GO JAGS!!

We don't need Williams at 3 he wouldn't impact the team at all in terms of getting wins!
