The Cubs are pretty good right now.

Waiting for Bryant to hit the first dinger, but he's still rakin'. Looks very mature at the plate (for the most part). Not going after a lot of the garbage that the pitchers are trying to make him fish for.

Adam Wainwright.

"I couldn't disagree more," Wainwright told reporters. "I love Max ... but I just think baseball is a National League game. I wish both leagues would convert to National League baseball. I understand why people would say that, but you can't point to another instance, almost, that the pitcher got hurt, whether or not it was their Achilles, doing that kind of thing."

Did the team decide to not let fans in, or did they just not show up?

Oh ok. I heard them talking about it on the radar and they said they same thing, it being weird, interesting, unusual.

Too bad Baltimore wasn't hosting the Rays today. Tampa Bay would have felt like they were playing a home game.

Or Baltimore felt like it was any year between 1999-2011 again.

Quote:It looks like the AL East and AL West are wide open this season.

In the AL East,  a case probably could be made for each team finishing anywhere from 1 to 5.

The Rays have had a good farm system and overall baseball operation for many years.   Considering their modest payroll over the years,   they have done very well.    It's not easy to compete with the bankroll of the Yankees and Red Sox.  Yet,   the Rays more than held their own in that division.   It would be good for baseball,  at least from my perspective,  if the Rays ended up winning the AL East this season.

Those days of the AL East being a two team division were horrible for anybody not a fan of those teams. I remember there being complaints from Rays fans about being put in that division. In reality, it was good for them. You want to be good? Beat the good teams. The Rays, Jays and O's have been doing that lately, and it's fun to watch.

I get that the Rays attendance is never very good. But I have watched plenty of games from place like Atlanta, Philadelphia and Cleveland this year where the stands look like a ghost town. Even the Yankees have thousands of every seats for almost every home game.

But the Rays are always the punchline.

1. The Rays were dead last in attendance the past 3 season.

2. The Rays had 90+ win seasons in 2011, 2012, and 2013, yet still finished 29th, 30th, and 30th in attendance. When you attendance is that bad despite the team being a contender, punchlines are warranted.

You mention the Phillies. The Phillies are terrible this year and will have better attendance numbers than any of Tampa Bay's recent 90 win seasons. Think about that for a second.

Ok, I have thought about it. Now what?

Cobb, Smyly out for the year with arm injuries and yet the Rays are only a game out. Gotta love the mediocre AL East.

They seem to keep churning the good, young, pitchers out of their farm systems though...don't they?
