Bowden Wanted No Part Of The SEC

Ah, thanks for the correction!

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Actually, they joined earlier but didn't play until 1992...at least according to this 1990 news article...

Quote:It's so funny to watch the role reversal between FSU and UF fans. If something bad happened to a UF player or something within the program wasn't right it was deflect deflect deflect, excuse excuse excuse.

Now it's FSU's turn.

Even Shack Del Rio's post in this thread....a Gator fan would have said the same thing about an FSU fan.

People's fandoms blind them too much.

There is nothing to deflect. Bobby's already shared his opinion on this. I mean, if people want to make old news, new news then by all means.

This is all pointless. It's 2015 and we have a new hall of fame coach.

The biggest thing I take out of it is that FSU and Bowden didn't want to get into a better conference because, admittedly, they didn't feel they could make it through the SEC to the title game. But FSU fans are non stop in bashing out of conference schedules. The double standard is even more hilarious now.

Well at least you have something to laugh about other than your teams play on the field.

I'm sure.  With the way the football program has gone and now Billy D out of the picture, you got to have something that makes you smile.  As a Nole fan, I'm glad we can do that for you.

Why do you whine about this "double standard" so much? Does it really bother you that much?

Did it really matter all that much to FSU fans when they belly ached about SEC out of conference competition. Simply pointing out the hypocrisy. Does it bother you that much?

People keep saying this, but where?  I'm not sure if it was you or Big John, but someone said he said this 20 years ago.  I never recall Bobby saying this that long ago, especially while coaching

When did he say it?  Is there a link because I could not find it.

I don't remember hearing FSU fans "belly ache" about SEC out of conference competition. I think the most popular comment was about Florida not playing an out of conference game outside of the state of Florida in 25 years. It always gets a rise out of Florida fans. But that will end in a couple years when they play Michigan in Dallas.

It doesn't really matter at this point, the conferences have drastically changed.  Bowden may have had good reasoning back in the day, but his teams were so loaded with talent it wouldn't have mattered what conference FSU played in at the time, specifically in the 90s.  Those teams were insanely talented, played tons of SEC teams, and consistently dominated pretty much everyone.

The ACC really has been a solid conference for a while now, just look at the talent entering the NFL.

Bottom line, there are tons of good teams out there, and tons of bad teams out there, and FSU has tried to supplement their schedule with tougher out of conference opponents to make up for some of the weaker ACC teams.

You're wrong, the rallying cry amongst many FSU supporters on this board was that a majority of SEC schools never left the conference to play anyone in the power conference.  I know Georgia was given props for doing it on a somewhat consistent basis, but not many others did....it wasn't just Florida, even though they play FSU year in and year out and are typically a very good team.  Somehow they were not given credit for that.

I don't care about the SEC schedule, I just make fun of Florida for ducking Miami all those years when they were a power.

Mine has always been directed towards just UF. Not leaving the SE to play games for years.

I have said earlier in this thread that I've never heard him say this before, or read where he had. Keep up.

But a team admits they'd completely avoid a conference because of it being tougher is ok. This is where the double standard applies.
