Bowden Wanted No Part Of The SEC

"I felt Paul that it was to difficult to win through the SEC to win a national championship. I felt like our best route would be to go through the ACC and that did prove out to be correct. But, I don't know if we could have made it through the SEC" -Bobby Bowden

Man he is really earning his pay from the FSU booster club right now. Just straight mouthing off when he needs to shut it.
Really funny though, as a SEC fan to watch. Quote:"I felt Paul that it was to difficult to win through the SEC to win a national championship. But, I don't know if we could have made it through the SEC" -Bobby Bowden Where is bigjohn with something ignorant to say?
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
He's saying what was already obvious to most of us. The ACC has been much easier to run the table in, therefore staying in the ACC was a way of beating the old rankings system to get a title shot. We have the playoffs now, so FSU likely will never win another championship.
I think when making this argument, you have to take into account that, historically, the SEC has been allowed into a championship game with losses or without even winning their conference. Is it easier to run the table in the ACC? Sure. But is it easier to get into a national championship game? That's very debatable.

Bobby's comments blow that line of thinking completely out of the water.

And regardless of conference, no team with two losses should ever be allowed in a college football championship game.
Quote:There's a reason why a team with a loss or two can get into the national title game out of the SEC. Bowden's comments reinforce that. Okay, but I still argue which is easier to do and, therefore, more likely to put you into a championship game. Going undefeated is VERY difficult, no matter what conference you play in, and an undefeated season is basically required in the ACC.
Also, the SEC has received the benefit of the doubt so many years getting into championship games over other teams; suddenly, the first year of a playoff, the "consensus" best team, Alabama, gets knocked out by a Big 10 team. Makes you wonder if there were playoffs in previous years if the SEC would've had that great championship streak.
FYI - I do believe the SEC is the best conference, but I'm not always sure they have the best team and, even if they do, the best team doesn't always win in a playoff format. Lol, people are posting this as if it is new news! Haha, Bobbys views on this are not a secret. You got us! Quote:Quality losses, amirite? Right on queue!
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
Quote:Right on queue!Wait. You asked where he was, and when he responds to your inquiry, this is your retort? Really? Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

And Bowden's comments kind of confirm why your second sentence is true.
