40% of the homeless youth are LGBT.  You can say "Oh, there's all these starving kids in Africa", but once you do you're ignoring every problem we have in the world for a single focus (which you're also, coincidentally, not solving)  There's many problems in the world, and we can focus on more than one at a time.  


You don't have to agree with what Caitlyn Jenner did.  The real sad thing isn't that she's getting the award.  The real sad thing is that it took someone who's already famous to bring an important issue to the front.  If she were going around sleeping with kids, we would (quite rightfully) vilify her.  But what she's doing... how does it hurt you?  The treatment of LGB people has improved over the years, though we haven't seen much movement on the T front.  Again, you don't have to agree with her decision.  You DO have to treat her and other Trans like people.  


Like I said, 40% of homeless youth are LGBT.  That is staggering.  It shows that parents aren't accepting of their children, and that we have a long ways to go toward reducing familial rejection. I could never kick any of my children out, no matter what they came to tell me.  If it was something that harmed other people, I'd do my best to get them help so that they would not hurt anyone.  If it was something that didn't hurt anyone, I would do my best to be understanding.

Good question. What is the point? Other than demographics and possibly a guide for baby shower presents, there really is no difference.

 

As I pointed out earlier, gender identity has nothing to do with genitalia. Many transgendered individuals never have the surgery.

I try to be open minded because it is hard to know how I would feel unless I was in the same position. What bugs me is how the entire "event" has been carefully orchestrated in order to gain maximum publicity and financial gain. I would feel bad for the family, but they are all millionaires from doing the exact same thing.

 Regarding the question you asked,   here's my reply:

 

 If a person believes that what Bruce Jenner did is wrong  ( which is what I believe is the case ),   my take is that Jenner's celebrity status will lead some others down a similar path.   Hence,  Jenner is hurting others.   I wouldn't condone what Jenner did even if he was unknown to practically everyone.   But his celebrity status far increases the potential damage under the perspective that what he did is wrong.

 

 If a person believes what Bruce Jenner did isn't wrong,   then from their perspective he wouldn't be hurting anyone.
