Bruce Jenner will be presented with ESPY Authur Ashe Courage award

Seriously though, I dont care what any grown person wants to do to themselves...they're grown, have at it. I don't know what it has to do with me or why it detracts from the real headlines. This is a grown man that has decided to become a grown woman...so be it. It's literally his junk to deal with.

Opinions are never wrong.  They're also never right. They're an individuals thoughts or beliefs and are subjective in nature.

The bible???  Do you think there's only one version?

So I see.

And yes, I would like nothing more than to continue this "debate".

What advice?  Do you not understand the definition of the word "opinion"?

I think you've confused yourself.

Are you under the impression that opinions can be objectively proven?

Are you disputing the existence of multiple versions of "the bible"?

How is acknowledging an opinion to be correct (in my belief) by stating that I've seen it proven a contradiction?

1. I'm not confused at all.

2. Yes. Some opinions have and will continue to be proven.

3. Nope. I don't believe any of the versions.

4. You specifically contradicted yourself with regards to your reply to her post. Go back and read it.

1)  Keep thinking positive and you'll get there.

2)  I'm beginning to get an opinion of you, which you're rapidly proving to be true.  Wallbash

3)  Back to number one for a moment......Is that "Nope", you're not disputing the existence of multiple versions and you're adding the unrelated (and for the purposes of this discussion, irrelevant) fact that you don't believe in any of them, or "Nope", you don't believe in them and for that reason deny their existence?

4)  Do I need to break down "So I see" into simpler language for you?

Apparently, Bob Costas didn't get the memo.

BTW, the issue here has more to do with the fact that people think ESPN could have made a more relevant choice than selecting someone who is in the midst of gender reassignment who was an athlete 4 decades ago.  There are people more currently affiliated with sports of all sorts who are more deserving than Jenner.  Costas articulated this in his comments.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Red/Black item #1 My opinion is you're a duck (I'm keeping with this theme). Am I correct? Opinions are never wrong.

Red/Black item #2 Not understanding this question. I used this as an example of why I wouldn't debate it, I made no reference to how many versions there are or are not. MY OPINION is you are just looking for things in my post in which to argue, stupidly.

Red/Black item #3 You're trying to coyly make a funny about ME looking foolish. You failed.

How about you get the quack out of here!

Opinions can surely be wrong. They have to have some factual evidence to back them up.

Quote:For me, it's never been so much about the change Jenner is going through as it is the fact that I think this was just ESPN/ABC/Disney doing the politically correct thing to stay on the good side of a very aggressive, vocal segment of our society who happen to be the flavor of the day cause right now.

This wasn't and never has been about courage.  It's about payback for throwing the first interview to ABC.  It's about a sports network floundering in irrelevance looking for a story line that might give their award show a bump in ratings which ultimately leads to a fatter bottom line.  If it was truly about courage, Jenner wouldn't have been the pick.

The COURAGEOUS thing to do as a network would have been to select the people who may not garner the ratings bonanza.  ESPN/ABC/Disney chose the weaker path in an effort to pander to the LGBT crowd.  That's certainly their prerogative, and I'm sure there will be a bump in the ratings as a result because some folks just love a freak show.  There might be a few who are inspired by his story, but the curiosity factor revolving around his change is what will draw people to watch for a brief moment.  Just wait.  Jenner will likely be one of the last ones on the broadcast to receive hsi award.

I understand your point, and tend to agree. Had it been an athlete currently competing in a sport transitioning to the opposite gender, the award may have been justified. I just don't get upset about it because it's ESPN. I expect no less from them.

The quote to which you replied was part of the side discussion that evolved in this thread, not the point brought up by the OP.

Depends on the context. Opinions that are lobbied as supposition or speculation can be proven wrong. For example, "In my opinion, the U.S. economy will collapse under President Obama". That opinion, or speculation rather, will be proven correct or incorrect over time.

"Opinions" that run counter to current, provable fact aren't really opinions, rather delusional blatherings of people who use the word opinion as absolution of being wrong about anything. For example, "In my opinion, the Jacksonville Jaguars are in the NFC North division". Again, not opinion, just lunacy.

To me, the word opinion best fits when in regard to something completely subjective. For example, "In my opinion, Jimi Hendrix was the best guitar player ever". Not really provable in any manner, and really more a matter of taste than anything.

Bottom line, people use the word opinion to blur the line between objective and subjective measures. It's a good way for some people to feel like they're never wrong about anything.
