Quote:Absolutely.

Wait...wait...wait.

Just who is 'demeaning' her? I gave my opinion on what I think she's going to face.

You're opinion sounded more like your personal view.

There are guys that are their ages everyday that work in a professional environment that work for women. What makes male football players different?  Those guys are getting paid to do a job....after the first day or two of having a female coach on the staff, it would be just like another day in the office.

Edit:  You said, "I'm talking about a woman trying to give pointers/coach/give orders...whatever the hell you want to call it...to a bunch of highly paid, testosterone filled, for the most part with big egos, men.

It will be a problem, no matter how you want to twist it."

Quote:You really think professional athletes would have trouble listening to a grown woman?  If she knows what she is talking about and proves it to the players (as with a male coach) I don' think it would be a problem.

Besides that, I think if a player gets out of line they would be put in place quickly by the other players.

I'm not a womanss advocate, but to demean her just because she's a female coach is pretty sad.

A detail that you may be overlooking here in that "professional athlete" statement is that what we are talking about are mostly 20-somethings who have never really had to interact with a female on a football basis. Yes, they are professionals and are expected to act as such, but people fail to live up to expectations all the time.

Is she professionally prepared? I think so, but that doesn't mean that there won't be some resistance from her players in regards to them dealing with an unfamiliar situation.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Bingo.

Whether someone wants to admit it or not, women in a position of authority are generally met with some resistance.  Call it whatever you want, that’s just the way it is.  Maybe not to the extent that it used to be, but it sure as hell still exists.  Ask a woman in the business world.  Couple that with the fact that none of these guys have ever had a woman as a coach and the vast majority of them are very young men, and I don’t see how you could not expect problems.

If a player doesn't want to listen to her they will be disciplined accordingly.  They will have to go through the same kind of training that the rest of society has gone through.

It's not a matter of if they are able to deal listen to her and do what she says.....they have to, or there will be consequences.  If you start taking their cash for disrespecting a female coach, I bet they become more accepting.

That's not necessarily true though, is it? Most every driver in the country is aware of the financial consequences of Driving while Under the Influence and yet, courts are filled with these cases every day, and even with repeat offenders. Thinking about the player-to-coach interaction, there are a lot more ways to resist and even undermine coaching than by outright defiance.

Look, I'm not saying that there isn't a structure in place for her to succeed, but to think that every 20-something on that roster who is faced with his first interaction with a female football coach is going to step in line with a sharp attitude is a bit far-fetched in my opinion. Should they? Absolutely. Will they? I'm not so certain about that.

I think there are plenty of professional athletes who have trouble listening to anyone.  Do you think all coaches automatically get the same level of respect from the players? Wouldn't you expect the opinions and instructions of coaches (and GM's and owners) who've played the game, especially at the NFL level, to be somewhat better received, than those of coaches who have not.

We're not necessarily talking about a player getting out of line, just about how receptive they are to her "instructions".

Nobody is demeaning her, they're just pointing out the additional difficulties she will face.

When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.

I think you are missing the point here.

Yes, the players should be disciplined accordingly - but the fact is that most of these players have a tough time boxing in their egos. Ever heard of players getting coaches fired? Not saying that it would happen here obviously, but the slippery slope seems steeper.

Being told they are the best for years + acquiring millions of dollars + playing in such an emotional and instinctive game = a recipe for disaster.

She did play the game.
