I doubt anything is out there that is gonna fix are weaknesses, outside of Alden Smith and he may get suspended this year, which would make no sense, when we will get Fowler next year and draft somebody else

Exactly. The odds of a team releasing someone who has shown the ability to rush the passer are slim to none.

We would basically be sifting through a bunch of other people's trash who haven't shown much in the offseason either.

Pretty much wishful thinking at this point.

Nice draft list for next year.

I like Evans as the backup SS. He offers position flexibility, is young and is in his third year in the system.
Respect the game.  Play with a sense of urgency.

1.)  Take care of the ball.  Win the turnover battle.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.

Learn from the great collapse of 2023.

Nothing at all. He did like you would expect a UDFA to do. Flash here and there and be really inconsistent.

We needed more than just Fowler, even before Fowler got injured.

Yep. And I'm certainly not expecting Fowler to come in and be the savior now. I expect pass rush to be the top of the draft board again next year.

You guys do realize that starting-caliber players at key positions don't show up on waivers during the preseason, right? We're not going to find Joeckel's replacement on September 6th.

Quote:Waiver wishes... (although quality through the waiver wire is likely minimal)

* Pass rusher...Leo please, the Branch/Clemons era is forgettable.

* Left tackle...Joke-L.

* Backup QB...This team is sunk if Henne is forced to play.

* Linebackers...aside from a couple plays by Skuta, they were bad as a group.

* DT...Miller was beat continually and no penetration from the Marks backups.

I'm not so worried about our depth at DT and LB at least compared to what waiver wire additions might offer. At the 3-tech DT spot we have Alualu backing up Marks followed by Ziggy Hood with Bennett quickly developing, and at NT I almost like Abry Jones more than Miller.

Skuta is the weak link at LB with Tevin Smith and Poz two of the better players on the roster. As for depth at MLB it looks like Jeremiah George is a future starter, and at OLB the undrafted rookie Thurston Arbrister has been all over the place. They also have LaRoy Reynolds and John Lotulelei who both have strong motors with plenty of potential.

I'm not saying any of these guys are all-world, but neither are guys you might find off waivers. As for Joekel, it's the same thing. Do you really expect to replace him short of trading a draft pick for an established player? That might be possible at the backup QB spot, but good LTs are very hard to find.

He's still an option, but you'd pretty much have to waive Branch, and possibly Hood as well, to fit him on the roster. I'm expecting Cap to make the PS.

Waiver wire quality is always minimal.  I don't pretend to have high, or much of any, hopes that the wire will solve our ills.

A few recent Jag waiver wire pickups of note...

RB Bernard Pierce, TE Clay Harbor, LB JT Thomas, DE Jason Babin to name a few.

We could've used JT Thomas this year. He's a beast.

I'd be happy with Sam Young's replacement ... or even a player who isn't as good but has development potential, like a former defensive lineman who recently switched to OT. If Joeckel is injured we at least need a guy who can keep our franchise QB alive until 2016.

By "beast" do you mean "meh"?

You watched him play last week, and he was flying around making plays. He helped us out a lot last year in coverage and stopped the run consistently. He provided solid depth and was one of the few players that didn't miss tackles. Although, George and Ambrister seem to be playing pretty well.

JT was solid. He was a bit of a leader on the field and make his fair share of tackles. That said, I don't know that I'd say "beast." In reality the guy is a borderline starting LB. He's starting for the Giants, but on many teams he'd be listed as depth. I agree with you about George and Armbrister as you could pretty much say the same about them. I don't know about the leader part necessarily, but they definitely get their tackles. Besides, there wasn't much Caldwell could do as the Giants promised the free agent a starting role.
