I figured out who Bortles reminds me of.
|
As silly as the garrard vs bortles convo is, people need to stop projecting stats and focus on W/L. Sure 3TDs fit the narrative of 'Omg he's going to break the TD record' but those 3 picks cost us the game.
Pick #1: Took away the chance for a likely FG (3 points) Pick #2: in the end zone (3-7points) Pick #3: pick 6 (7 points) So records be damned in my opinion. I don't care if he throws a million tds, just cut down the damn mistakes. If he can maintain a 2.5/1 ratio, we win a lot of ball games. We show less advertisements to registered users. Pick #1: No argument and I was vehemently talking to fans and mostly myself in the stadium after he made that throw and how there was no excuse for it. Pick #2: This was the pick 6 and as many believe was not on Blake, but JT not turning the right way or early enough. PIck #3: There was 1 minute left with no time outs and we needed two scores. Blake was pressing as he should. It was a spot where he could say hey, if it isn't there don't throw it. The details matter. They really, really do.
Quote:Pick #1: No argument and I was vehemently talking to fans and mostly myself in the stadium after he made that throw and how there was no excuse for it. So true. I honestly think Blake meant for Thomas to post up on the goal line on INT #1, but whatever. Quote:As silly as the garrard vs bortles convo is, people need to stop projecting stats and focus on W/L. Yeah, Blake should have done a better job covering Hopkins. Then the Jags would've won. People using W/L as a QB stat are basically admitting that they have no ability to critically review a situation and understand whats really going on. People using W/L as a QB stat are basically admitting that they have no ability to critically review a situation and understand whats really going on. I think W/L is a team stat at the end of the day, but I still think there is a sense in which it captures the ability of the QB as well. For example, look that the Denver team lead by Tebow and the change in their record after they signed Manning. A good impact QB will absolutely have a major effect on the W/L record of the team. With it also comes an identity, a persona that the team can rally around follow in times of adversity. Look at the way Cam Newtown has had an impact on Carolina. He isn't the best statistical QB, but he has provided the team with fire and leadership and that is reflected by his W/L record. In the case of Bortles it doesn't help that he seems to have the opposite effect on the team. When the pressure is on him to carry the team in the face of adversity, his play drastically deteriorates. Look at the game against the Texans for example. The team has the lead until Hopkins burns the D for a TD and the lead. How does Bortles respond? He throws a pick 6, then follows it up with another INT, and then continues to make bad decisions and poor throws until the game is out of hand. This is just the latest example but his career is filled with games like this. How about the Colts game where he only completed 1/6 passes in overtime and the team had to settle for long FG tries. Then look at Cam, the team was down multiple possessions in one of the hardest atmospheres to play in against one of the leagues best defenses and he leads multiple long drives with clutch plays and throws and eventually scores the game winning TD. There is absolutely something to be said about a QB's ability to carry a team to wins. Whether that is completely captured and reflected accurately in a statistic as simple and brute as W/L is doubtful, but there is still something to take away from the fact that Bortles has never been that type of impact player (e.g., he has never lead this team to a win on the road). Ok dude like we really care what a toothless tacks fan thinks of our QB. Why don't you go ask you aunt mommy and uncle daddy to paint "Mariota 8" on your overalls you dumb hick?

I thought I portrayed a fairly objective analysis, and even cited empirical evidence to back up my claims and clarify my reasoning. Isn't that what the board is for, football discussion? Bortles is allowed one pick per touchdown and a pick six if he throws at least 2 Tds. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Pick #1: No argument and I was vehemently talking to fans and mostly myself in the stadium after he made that throw and how there was no excuse for it.The picks do matter. You can't have it both ways. When he throws a garbage time td y'all come hoopin and hollerin screaming it matters. But the picks are broken down to science as to why it's not his fault. But who made the decision to throw the ball? Lol at throwing the ball at jts feet! Then when bortles needed to respond with a drive he throws the game away at the first attempt. This kid has a long ways to go. I actually feel like he can be serviceable one day. But let's not baby him so much. He sucked today plain and simple.
once again why is this baconator douche allowed to troll this forum?? how is this allowed??? he's outright stated he's a tacks fan get this clown out of here

<p style="text-align:center;">But that same man can get lost in the sauce."
Baconator, have you see Cam's stats his first 2 years? While he put up a lot of yards, he turned the ball over more than Blake has. He was atrocious. Also, Cam is in his 5th year. Blake is in his second. Blake is better in his second year than Cam was.

David Garrard had a couple things Blake doesn't. That is, a potent running game and a good defense.
To compare them as a qb, however, I don't get it. They did both have that scrambling ability to avoid pressure, but there are quite a few throws Blake can make that David couldn't dream of making.

Whole game plan comes down on Blake. There is nothing else to go with. That is a lot on a 2nd year players. oh yeah and lets surround him with other players with the same amount of experience and playing time. Jeez I can't figure out why they are struggling.
When I was watching the Green Bay and Chargers game what struck me was how good Blake is for a 2nd year player. Aaron Rodgers doesn't force the ball as much as Blake does. And Philip Rivers has way more experience. For both teams their defenses made some plays.

Quote:He reminds me of a second year quarterback that is constantly asked to win from behind. He reminds me of a quarterback that plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars...
Bortles needs a running game. It is putrid right now. Tough to be very effective in this league, in the game of football in general when there is no ground threat.

Quote:He is progressing. I don't know why you think a one dimensional offense helps a 2nd year QB. We have no run game no matter who we put in the backfield. The defense is death by a thousand cuts and the offense is too forced. Certain plays BB5 can't set his feet and his gunslinger mindset kicks in. He can't do it on his own. I can not understand how anyone can be willing to give up on Bortles at this point. He shows some pretty amazing things out there and he just needs to pull it all together. I've seen comparisons to Gabbert. Honestly, if you're stupid enough to compare him to Gabbert, stop watching football. Now he's Garrard? They are nowhere near the same player. Leftwich? Not even close. Put him on a team that has a defense that isn't complete garbage, give him a line that gives him a bit of time and some resemblance of a running game and he may have a shot. I know that's asking for a lot. Quote:Bortles needs a running game. It is putrid right now. Quote:Bingo. But, Rivers threw it 60+ times, 500 yards, no interceptions, and they almost won it against one of the best teams. |
