Vernon Hargreaves III

Quote:Clowney actually was the #1 pick. He was expected to be the first pick since before he was eligible for the draft.
was he the actual number 1 pick or was he just picked 1st overall?

Quote:Revis is too small?

Hargreaves is on par with Revis expect when it comes to physicality and versatility. One of the main gripes against Hargreaves is his speed. Same issue with Revis when he came out. Revis ran a high 4.30s in the 40; if Hargreaves can put up similar numbers I expect a change in opinion. Another issue, which is echoed by teams and draft experts, is his tackling. Watching the film it's apparent; his tackling at times is atrocious. He can be taught that though and he still has more games and the combine to push himself I'm that top5.

Quote:You think a top 5 pick is too high for him?

Top 5 for one team is obviously different from another. I don't have him in my top 5. The Jaguars have bigger needs and better prospects available. Whether I'm picking by need or best player, he's just outside my top 5.
New signature because HIGH SCORE found the periodic table offensive. Pathetic LOL

Nkemdiche has 3.5 sacks in 2 years. And hes supposed to dominate at the next level. Will grier probably forgot his name.

Vernon is 5'11" 200. Thats not small bur its not in line with the trend of long corners so that may truncate the list od teams interested in him but he gets the ball. Gus is pulling his hair out because thats a trait u cant teach.

Nkemdiche is a pick I wouldn't be happy with.

I would not be happy with him either. Hargreaves is the best cornerback in the NCAA. If not him, how can you pass on Bosa?

Because Ohio state sucks.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Why are we bringing up schools when we should be discussing overall talent?? Who cares what school they went to

I am not talking about schools. The bet options for our defense just happen to be a Gator and a Buckeye.

If VHIII was 2 inches taller and 15-20 pounds heavier he'd be a safety and therefore not worth a top 5 pick.

No, he would still be a top 5 pick. I also don't see why he would play safety in the NFL.

We will never have a shutdown corner if we can never fix the pass rush. Not saying I'm against taking VHG but I think we have bigger issues and I think our corners now are serviceable. I'm a huge Nkemdichie fan. Yeah, he isn't a sack artist but the fact that he pushes the line of scrimmage baxk is huge. Fowler wasnt a pure pass rusher but if we have Marks, Nkemdichie Odrick and Fowler all on the line..someone will get there if we just send those 4.

That is crap Fred. The definition of a shutdown cornerback has nothing to do with the talent up front. It is all about the player himself. Put any four guys on the LOS and Hargreaves will be a shutdown cornerback.

Do you ever watch other teams play defense?

You give an NFL qb all day in the pocket like we do and VHG, Revis, Sherman and Cam Chancellor would give up yards. I do watch other teams. Each team with a shutdown corner has one thing in common...any guess to what that is? Consistent pressure.

I think a lot of perceptions would change with Hargreaves if he played some better competition. Let's me honest, the SEC is not a hot spot for great qb and wr play right now.

I look at a team like Vandy who UF plays today. In their last 4 games, they have had 54 drives. In those 54 drives they have had 4 touchdowns; only 1 passing. Look at Missouri. Last 4 games: 54 drives, 1 touchdown, none passing. Look at Georgia. Last 4 games: 58 drives, 3 touchdowns, 2 passing.

A lot of corners are gonna matchup fairly well against qb and wr play in the East. Just my opinion.

VHIII is listed at 199. Another 20 pounds puts him at 219. He'd be a safety at that weight. Not a corner. There's only one guy I could find in the NFL playing corner at that weight and he's 6'4.

Nonsense. Do you know where Todd Gurley played the last 3-4 years? A school in the same division as the Gators. That obviously did not affect anyone's opinion about his running ability.

Like someone else said in this thread, where a player goes to school has absolutely nothing to do with talent or anything else required to play in the NFL. It is all about the player, not the team.
