Of course the people of St. Louis think they can lure the Jaguars, so take that F for what it's worth.

Quote:There is no denying Kahn has been great for Jacksonville and the Jags......................with that being said though the City of Jacksonville has rolled out the red carpet for him as far as financial support. Yes it was bed tax but the city put out over $50 million towards the score boards, pools, renovations and wifi at the stadium.

When the Shipyards project hiccuped Kahn jumped to the Stadium project in a flash and again the city will contribute another $50 million of bed tax revenue.

The city has given up any rights to Stadium naming revenue and I believe the new amphitheater will be under the Jags control with Kahn receiving the revenue stream from that facility.

The city still has unfinished business with the Landing, Metro Park, and the Shipyards project. All three of these are going to have considerable costs associated with their future plans.

Like I said Kahn has been great for the team and fans but in all honesty from someone who has been in the area for better than 30 years I do not see any improvements downtown as far as growth and increased people presence.

it's great having an entertainment district adjacent to the stadium but without bars and resturants within walking distance you still have a venue where people come and go after the event.

We are turning a corner and while it is not going to happen overnight, the gameday experience is slowly going to diminish as technology and the comfort of your home (and cost) are going to trump seeing it live.

Just my two cents.................and for what it is worth the stadium upgrades have been great..........but am I the only one who thinks the pools are a little tacky?

One last thing, Kahn has made this is own personal pet project (stadium) and I don't think he would ever move the team. It is going to take awhile to build fan base though, when you see more Gator and Bulldog gear on people you know you have work to do.

I'll tell you what's tacky. It is you writing all this opinion and not taking the time to even spell the mans name correctly. How is one supposed to lend any merit to your opinion? I think the pools were a very nice addition and by the response of paying customers they do as well. The areas were sold out and in high demand.

I like the pools. It gives the stadium a distinct Florida feel. Florida is laid back, there's nothing wrong with that.

Besides, who wants to have the stadium that takes itself too seriously?

Agreed. It could be worse... Like a pirate ship in the north end zone....

Khan committed to the city, and we're entering year 5, so regardless of whether there was some form of written guarantee or not, he's proven to be a man of his word with the arrangement he made with Weaver.  Not only that, but he's also backed up that commitment with significant investments in the stadium, and in the community itself.  I was skeptical when Khan bought the team, but he's proven his desire to keep the team here beyond any shadow of a doubt.

Don't really care what grade STL gives the student.  I wouldn't expect them to give that bit of news high marks.

I find it funny that Rams fans, before the move was official, said they didn't want the Jags and that they suck. Now that they lost their team they want the Jags. I'm sure it sucks for St Louis fans, but seriously?? Leave the Jags alone.

whats funny is everyone killing the Jags for their pools and other upgrades like putting a priority on the redzone and fantasy sports for the fans whie at the game ...........then watching every new stadium that pops up including some version of the upgrades that have been done already in Everbank so apparently the league has been paying attention.

The league is very much one sided. Like you said, everyone kills the Jags for the things Khan has done yet praise Jerry Jones for AT&T Stadium...which is as much a 5 star conference venue with football facilities as it is a football stadium with 5 star conference venues.

The stadium has become the bargaining chip NFL owners are using to hold city's hostage. It is no longer winning and losing seasons that matter. The Jaguars have managed to squeeze over 100 mil from the city of Jacksonville.

Don't get me wrong but I can not afford season tickets so I only attend a few games each season and I would much rather enjoy watching a winning team than I am concerned about state of the art amenities of the stadium. I am not there to surf the Internet, or take 100's of selfies..........not that there is anything wrong with that!

Yeah and far as the pools selling out.............that's the only thing that has sold out..........you will definitely get your 15 minutes of fame on national TV by being in the pools. How about those Club Seats the Jags can't fill or the covered sections.

Look at me, look at me I am in the pool and I can pee!

Here's hoping for a much better and improved season.

Why don't you stop posting if you feel so threatened by someone with an intelligent objection to what Khan has been doing? All the stadium upgrades are fine, in and of themselves; but generally speaking, I want a winning team far more than all the glitzy amenities that, frankly, appeal to only a relatively small percentage of the fan base, no matter how much FBT tries to rationalize the move.

I want to go to Everbank to see the Jaguars play good, winning football; otherwise, I'll just continue to stay home and watch the first half (maybe) of the suckiest team in the suckiest division of the NFL continue to do what they've been doing... suck out loud. If I want glitze and sideshows, I'll wait until the fair comes to town.

I'm in the Dallas area and that stadium is all about 365 days in the year.  Oh yeah they play football there some Sundays.  The stadium is a jewel and amazing but it completely erased the home field advantage for the Dallas team.  The stadium was built to support the influx of fans from other cities and give them a place to part with lots of money to watch "their" team play the Cowboys.

Jerry world is a cash cow because of all the changes.

1.  I don't understand your dismay over the use of bed tax funds to fund these improvements.  According to the T-U...

Quote:

By Florida law, the city's hotel bed tax cannot be used to pay for the daily operations of City Hall such as police, fire, and libraries.  But the bed tax can be used for sports and entertainment venues.  The city collects a six (6) percent bed tax.  One third of that goes toward tourism promotion, one third is dedicated to paying debt towards the construction of the stadium, and the other one third goes toward a trust fund for the upkeep and improve at the stadium, arena, and baseball park.
http://jacksonville.com/sports/football/...-should-be

According to this, utilizing the bed tax revenue for these stadium projects, including the amphitheater, is consistent with the legislative intent in passing this bed tax in the first place.  Taking this at face value, such expenditures are completely consistent with local and state law.

2.  Prior to the Jaguars' arrival, the City of Jacksonville never pursued stadium naming rights.  With only two "major" events there a year, there was little to no incentive to do so.  With the new amphitheater, more concerts and better should come to town, which is consistent with the promoting of tourism.

3.  Yes, the city has unfinished business with those three areas, all of which were not caused or exacerbated by the Jaguars generally or Khan's ownership of the Jaguars and his stadium improvements specifically.  In fact, you could argue that if Khan goes through with his plans to develop the Shipyards, not only will the city's costs to clean the Shipyards be realized over the long term with the taxes generated by businesses in the shipyards development, but the landing could finally become viable as originally envisioned.

The Folio comments section would love this person. You know the " Oh my god, the billionaire is screwing over Cowford." crowd.

I'll tell you another thing, this " I cant afford tickets " thing I don't buy. This team has season ticks available at a little over $200 for the freaking year. If someone can't afford that they are broke as a joke and probably shouldn't be wasting a second posting on a message board. Unless that somehow improves their impoverished state.

Hey folks, I realize you did not think it possible but this poster has indeed come up with a new excuse to not buy tickets. "I won't buy because the stadium is to nice." Buuwwwwwaaaaaa.

In fairness, $200 a year is for one person. If someone has a family of 3, that's $600 a year. Not counting parking and food (which the food is almost unavoidable if you are taking kids with you). Its still not bad compared to other NFL teams, but its a far cry from just $200. That said, it still comes down to a lot of people who would spend that $600 doing something else (movies, concerts, golf, the beach, netflix, or whatever entertainment they enjoy) as opposed to spending that on the Jags.

Man I guessed I hit a few nerves.......this is a post about stadium upgrades, is it not?

Everyone has an opinion and me, I would rather have a winning team than a stadium that it's sole purpose is to stimulate my senses.

Call me crazy, but watching a winning team on the field is lot better than seeing those guys in the pool on the big screen while we are losing...............but it seems a few of you are happy watching the guys in the pool. Hey, there is nothing wrong with that if it gets you over a losing season.

Perhaps my boys up in Foxboro should put a few hot tubs in to increase the fan experience!

As far as affordability you are right, $200 is great but I have a family of four and the luxury of season tickets was justified the first five years but times change and it is just a few games each season I can afford to go to.

Since I last posted it seems Gus was extended another year along with his staff. As many people that I see on this board totally freaking out about this, perhaps the Jags can come up with a few more ways to increase the fan experience in order to make the losing more entertaining.

Nice pictures of the pool.........all guys, but two girls, one hot and one fully dressed..........the score......priceless.
