City Council Unanimously approves Amphitheater/Practice Fields

Quote:In fairness, $200 a year is for one person. If someone has a family of 3, that's $600 a year. Not counting parking and food (which the food is almost unavoidable if you are taking kids with you). Its still not bad compared to other NFL teams, but its a far cry from just $200. That said, it still comes down to a lot of people who would spend that $600 doing something else (movies, concerts, golf, the beach, netflix, or whatever entertainment they enjoy) as opposed to spending that on the Jags. I guess it's about priorities. 600 a year is about 12 bucks a week. If you want to go, you'll go. If you don't, you won't. It's really not about cost.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Quote:Man I guessed I hit a few nerves.......this is a post about stadium upgrades, is it not?Now wait. Your post to which I responded talked about the bed tax. NOW your post isn't focusing on the bed tax. It's focusing on the desire to have a winning team vs. the stadium improvements. Two TOTALLY DIFFERENT issues. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
I get that some guys want to see women in bikinis in the pools, but the pools were not put in for that purpose. They were put in to generate revenue, not serve as a "G-rated" peepshow. They are there for people to enjoy, whichever way they want. If that someone is fully dressed, so be it, after all, they paid for the ticket.

Call me crazy but I thought that Khan was the one putting in money to upgrade the city of Jacksonville's property not the other way around.
I am pretty sure every Jaguar fan would like to see a winning team, with that said is there any thing wrong with stadium improvements? Why is this even being discussed?

My bad I guess. I was responding to the city council vote topic and managed to include both my dissatisfaction with the city caving into the Jaguars and my desire to see a winning team. The two are separate issues as pointed out.
With the new upgrades the city will have spent over 100 million towards upgrades and yes this will be borrowed against the future bed taxes. To be honest I do have a serious hard spot with NFL owners leveraging city's to put out or lose out. Enough said! My apologies, and with that being said the stadium will give Jacksonville a world class venue that would certainly make it difficult for any owner to want to leave. Peace out! Quote:My bad I guess. The two are separate issues as pointed out.I get your frustration with the losing, and I can see how a cynic would think the stadium improvements are a distraction of sorts from the bottom line on field product. But the truth is, the team needs both a top notch facility and a much better on field product. We've seen what happens repeatedly when cities don't invest in their stadiums and allow them to become dilapidated and obsolete. Just look to the three cities that lost their teams. We are in a market that doesn't have the room for error other markets have. This is a market that has to be proactive when it comes to the stadium. By the same token, the losing has gone on long enough. All of the bells and whistles and new gadgets in the world isn't a substitute for a winning and contending team. Fans want to go to the stadium with as close to an assurance as possible that they are going to get a good show. Over the past few years, too often, the team not only hasn't been winning, but hasn't been competitive. I think for about 2-3 games last year, that was the case. But overall, the team is closer to meeting the minimum acceptable level of competitiveness than it has been in a long time. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
Quote:Call me crazy but I thought that Khan was the one putting in money to upgrade the city of Jacksonville's property not the other way around. He is putting in his money, but not all of the money required to do these things. Regarding the amphitheater and practice facility, the total cost is estimated at $90 million. Khan is putting up his own money to cover half of the costs. The other $45 million is covered by the bed tax. In the Shipyards, it's my understanding the only quibbling is over the cost of the cleanup (estimated to be $30-$40 million). The city council already approved his plan to develop the shipyards, but that is the stumbling block. But Khan is putting up his money to develop that area. Personally I don't understand the reluctance to back Khan on this. It's not as if the city was getting anything out of the Shipyards, as is. It's not as if the stadium was drawing much in the way of revenue before the Jaguars. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
Quote:He is putting in his money, but not all of the money required to do these things. You're correct. The city is obligated to pay for the cleanup. The land is a toxic stew, and will need $30-40 million to get it to the point where development can begin. Once the site is developed with Khan's money, that property will begin generating tax revenue on the land that hasn't been seen in forever. In addition, it will bring more revenue to the downtown district in tourism, retail, restaurants, entertainment, and housing, not to mention the hotel. Another delay was the change of mayors. Fortunately, the new administration seems to be just as committed as the last to getting this done. The red tape to get this project off the ground has always been a stumbling block, but so has the financing of past projects. That's not an issue this time around. It could wind up that Khan foots a portion of that bill as well just to get the project rolling, but that will mean additional concessions from the city. Best case is the city funds the cleanup, expedites any permitting, and gets out of the way as best they can because everyone benefits if this comes to fruition. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

They said the contractor was ready to go as soon as they had the permits in place. The amphitheater and practice field permits should probably be ready soon as well. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:I like the pools. It gives the stadium a distinct Florida feel. Florida is laid back, there's nothing wrong with that. Tacky? Maybe. Who cares. I've had a blast every time I was up there. I like that we are doing things differently. Be bold and be proud. Quote:You're correct. The city is obligated to pay for the cleanup. This post is full of ridiculous losers. Maybe we should just go back to Cowford. I was a manufacturing representative for a major worldwide company till I retired.
Most people had never even heard of Jacksonville or knew what state it was in. Think before you post complete drool or move to somewhere that more fits you like Lake City.Nothing against you fine Lake City people!
The most brain-numbingly thing I hear is "why don't they fix the team before doing these upgrades!!1!" as if one has something to do with the other.

Don't really see anything downtown that has benefited from the stadium. Someone who posts an opinion contrary to yours and you call them losers............priceless!
I hope they put up a camera to watch it again

So apparently, the Shipyards are still on hold as the city and Khan continue to negotiate over cleanup costs. However, across the river, Peter Rummell is currently nearing an end to his negotiations with the city for the old JEA lot. Rummell seems to think that his discussions with the city should pretty much lay down the groundwork for Khan and the city to move forward with the Shipyards.
Rummell's exact quote is "The paperwork is getting straightened out as we go. He’s going to have a piece of cake". http://www.jaxdailyrecord.com/showstory...._id=546933

Thought this deserved a spot in this thread. I can only imagine what the area will look like once the Shipyards are finished along with these changes. Somehow, I don't think the presentations will do it justice. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
