Tashaun Gipson expected to hit market

Not really sure why it's an unfortunate situation. Cyp was much improved last season and sample is still an unknown commodity.

With a better pass rush, all the players in the secondary will look better anyway.

Our FS situation is dire though. I'm anxious to see what is done there.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Cyp was PFFs 2nd worst rated safety last year, 86th out of 87. I know PFF isn't perfect, but they aren't THAT wrong. He was downright terrible.

I do like Sample and thought he was a steal in the 4th round, but I'd still feel much more comfortable with Iloka as he is obviously a proven stud.

Jaguars need to take one of the safeties available. I don't want them to plan on taking Ramsay and then watch as Dallas or San Diego takes him. If he is not available, I wouldn't want them to have to rely on whomever they end up selecting in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. Joseph looks very promising, but not sure he could in. Gipson, Iloka and McLeod would all be good choices. From what I've seen about Iloka, he is very versatile and can play either free or strong safety. I doubt he makes it to free agency, however, so either Gipson or McLeod should be pursued. Sean Smith is the other guy in the secondary that I hope they sign. He'll probably be the best corner to hit the market and his size would fit with what the Jaguars like.

Smith, McLeod, Osemele and Jackson. Then take Bosa or Jack in the 1st and BAP on defense in the 2nd. Not a bad haul.

Quote:I had a pretty 'meh' opinion of Gipson's production last year. However, Haden was out and the other DBs are dumpster water. He was having to play deep to bail them out.

I would be interested to see how he would look in this defense.
He also had a high ankle sprain dealing with most of the season, he is still a very talented player and has great ball skills something we need bad
