Tashaun Gipson expected to hit market

Free agent FS Tashaun Gipson doesn't expect to be re-signed by the Browns.

Gipson wants to return to Cleveland and play under new DC Ray Horton, who was the Browns' defensive boss back in 2013 when Gipson became a starter. But to this point, the Browns haven't engaged in contract talks with Gipson. The ballhawking centerfield-type should have plenty of suitors, even after a down season that saw him battle a high-ankle sprain.

I've been a fan of his for a while now and think this guy should be a top FA priority for us. Add a pass rusher as well and then take the best available player come draft time whether that's Ramsey, Bosa, Jack or whoever else.

I had a pretty 'meh' opinion of Gipson's production last year. However, Haden was out and the other DBs are dumpster water. He was having to play deep to bail them out.

I would be interested to see how he would look in this defense.

I still think there are better fits for Bradley's defense out there--and better players. Ramsey over Gipson all day.

I think some on this board are overatting him a bit. Wasn't too impressed with him last year.

I also like Ramsey better, but if you land Gipson it makes it easier to take a guy like Jack or Bosa. I think the overall team gets better by adding Gipson. Even if you still take Ramsey he can play corner to start his career

A down year just made him easier to sign.  I'll take a 25 year old 2 time AFC interception leader with Pro Bowl credentials over what we have at FS now.  He would absolutely be an upgrade and give more flexibility going into the draft.

Our level of interest may tip Caldwell's hand a bit regarding Ramsey and his desire to get one of the other defensive guys early.  Or maybe not.

Berry isn't going to hit the market and is more of a SS, Weddle isn't a centerfielder anymore (never really was to begin with), Gipson could rebound to a stud but has a year and a half of being hurt/playing bad to overcome...leaving McLeod as the best young safe FS out there IMO.

If we somehow wound up with Iloka and McLeod (or Gipson is fine too)...wow.

I don't think the other safety position is anywhere near a priority right now. Cyp/sample are going to be playing that spot.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Would absolutely love Gipson here. Everyone talks about his down year but he was also bouncing back from an injury. The year before he was rated the 10th best safety overall by PFF and racking up interceptions. If he can rebound to that player then we are good shape back there.

McLeod was a top 10 safety this year and is a year younger, without that down year.

Don't get me wrong I'd be happy with Gipson, I'd just have McLeod a tick higher.

I agree Dave is pot committed at SS, unfortunately.

He's my top FS choice. McLeod is good too. I just don't feel Weddle, especially since he's only got a couple more years left.

I'd rather a vet FS who's had success and draft a pass rusher.

Plus Weddle recently said he will value winning over money so it looks like he will be trying to ring chase with an established team.

I'm with you on that. Veteran Safety and Karl Joseph in the second round.

Go into camp with Gipson, Cyprien, Sample, Joseph, Evans, Brown, UDFA... Not bad!

I'm a big fan of this guy. I give him a small pass on last year's productivity. 1) because it's Cleveland...; 2) he was probably demoralized the whole year; 3) because it's Cleveland....

I hope we go after this guy hard when FA starts. He can cover sideline to sideline and has the ball skills to play our FS position.

Then if we can draft D-line or LB in the 1st rd! Smile

GO JAGS!!

Let's Get Em!!!! Go Jags!
