Don't fear losing the #1 pick

Quote:1st round. We need a QB with our first pick which will probably be in the top 5 anyway. With the number of teams with bad record that are desperate for a new QB, I don't know about you, but I'd much prefer this team has the first overall pick and have the option to select their 1st choice and not settle for 2nd or3rd because someone else selected ahead of us. I get that, but if the team continues to improve to close out this season, I think thats important too. Some momentum will be built to carry over into next season. I think the Jags can get their QB even if they don't have the top draft pick. My concern though, is giving the Texans Bridgewater.
Quote:If Caldwell believes in McCarron enough to select him in the first round, then I'd like to see a trade down from the Jags likely top 5 pick and scoop up more picks. I think you could get McCarron in the mid-round or later. This makes no sense. If Caldwell believes in McCarron then he should take him when he's available.
Quote:This makes no sense. If Caldwell believes in McCarron then he should take him when he's available. So, if you CAN get something for $5, you should pay $20 for it anyway, just because you "believe" in it? Thats sounds like the Gene Smith book of "working" the draft.

The so called second coming of elite QBs looking real suspect. What y'all think about trading for Kirk Cousins? Perhaps Rob Johnson is available.
The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.
Quote:I fail to understand why McCarron gets so little love as a draft prospect. He's been the leader of the best program in college football for 3 years, won 2 championships, makes great throws, has plenty of poise in big games, and has the demeanor you want in a pressure packed position. Quote:And suddenly, your unflinching support for the Smith regime makes SO much sense... I object less to his suggestion for QB (McCarron) , than about how he suggests we acquire that same QB (with whatever pick we have even if its a top 5 pick) . If the Jags can gain some value by fetching some draft picks and using a mid first rounder (or later) to nab McCarron and then also use a day 3 pick on a QB like Aaron Murray, I wouldn't have too much of a problem with that. I'm starting to buy in to gaining some momentum here at the end of the season by finishing strong. I'm also starting to warm to the notion that there are other QB that we can win with other than Teddy Bridgewater, even though I think he's still the best of the class. I think I fear the Texans getting him more than I fear the Jags not being able to find another one. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

The 2014 draft and the 2013 season's success could very well decide on how bridgewater turns out. If he turns out to be a middle of the road QB, Then I'll be at peace. IF he turns out a tier 1/2 QB such as manning, brady, rivers, brees, Kaepernick, newton, etc. then its going to hurt and we will have gifted 2 franchise QBs to 2 division rivals. My eye test says Bridgewater never goes over middle of the pack. Mariotta will either be a top 10 QB or a complete Gabbert bust, Mccarron will be barkley 2.0, David Carr screams Joe Flacco to me (which is why Id rather him than anyone), Murray at best is another wilson but will never be a top tier QB based on measurables. Gimme Carr in the 2nd round with possibly Murray in the 4th. If we get both, Id be pretty at peace with our QB situation going forward

Carr and Austin Seferian-Jenkins or one of those 3 beast TE's.... need some more playmakers!
Quote: I'd be happy with that if it went down like that, but I'm not sure Carr lasts until the 2nd round. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

I'm really starting to believe Carr is going to be great. If he could fix the foot work I could see him being the #1 QB prospect. Someone hit the nail on the head when they compared him to Flacco. I was thinking the same thing.
Quote:If Carr goes top 5 its overdrafting of the position.hes not perfect but he has tons of potential. 4 of the top 5 teams might be looking for qbs.
Quote:I object less to his suggestion for QB (McCarron) , than about how he suggests we acquire that same QB (with whatever pick we have even if its a top 5 pick) . That's what I was referring to, as well. I'm actually warming up to Carr quite a bit...almost to the point where I want him more than Bridgewater. I predict we'll have the #3 pick, which means we should be snagging either Teddy, Carr, Clowney, or Barr, and that sound spretty fantastic to me. We show less advertisements to registered users. It takes a great QB to keep a team at the #1 spot for almost 3 years.
I doubt Carr lasts until the second round. Probably ends up being a top 10-15 pick.
The guy reminds me of Jay Cutler for some strange reason.

It takes a great QB to keep a team at the #1 spot for almost 3 years. Another thing McCarron will have going for him is that he'll be a Senior. Seniors tend to do better at least initially as pro's than do Junior's who enter the NFL a year early. I'm not claiming McCarron will be the best QB, I simply don't know....but I'm warming up to the possibility that we might select him. |
